POSITION SUMMARY: Opportunity for a dynamic, passionate and technical Age Group coach to help build and develop a year-round USA /YMCA swimming Age Group dual program. The Age Group coach will work with swimmers from ages 9 to 14 in the age group program and 15 to 18 for the High School/multisport athlete.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Acts as assistant coach for the Skagit Valley YMCA Aquatics (SVYA)swim team in the role of lead coach for multiple group practices Monday-Saturday and meets (generally once a month on weekends)
Plans and writes workouts that are age and ability appropriate for each group.
Develop and implement seasonal and long term plans for the progression of our age group program at all levels.
Assists head coach and is fully involved in the organization and total well-being of the SVYA swim team by working with Head Coach in building team philosophy and attending all team functions.
Acts as supervisor/head coach representative in the absence of the head coach.
Makes independent decisions by using sound judgment, while acting in the best interests of the athletes and Skagit Y at all times.
Identifies prospective athletes and makes recommendations to the head coach regarding those potential athletes in consideration for acceptance with a specific group.
Communicates consistently with parents, Head Coach, and Aquatic Director verbally or via email and shares updates and other necessary information.
Maintains all USA Swimming and YMCA coaching certification requirements at all times.
Abides by USA Swimming Code of Conduct, Safe Sport and the Four Core Values of YMCA: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
Evaluates individuals' abilities, needs, and physical conditions, and assists Head Coach in developing suitable training programs to meet any special requirements.
Supports head coach in assessing swimmers’ progress and keeps track of levels to monitor progress of each athlete.
Offers alternatives during training sessions to accommodate different levels of fitness.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum age 18
USA Swim Coach certification and/or ASCA Level 1 (or willingness to obtain)
Must be able to work evenings and some weekends
Minimum of two years coaching experience preferred
Competitive swim experience preferred
Comprehensive technical knowledge of swimming and swimmer’s development.
Strong sense of team building, sportsmanship and developing a safe environment for youth.
Demonstrates ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Abuse Prevention and Mandatory Reporting training required within 90 days of hire.
Current state approved certifications in First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED/O2 and Blood borne Pathogen Training.
