Description
Department Overview
The Oregon Stem Cell Center conducts basic and applied research in the field of Stem Cell Biology with the long-term goal to harness the properties of stem cells for regenerative medicine and cell therapy.
Our Mission
Cell and transplantation therapy have been part of mainstream medicine for decades, but cell therapy has made only limited advances in several years. Cell therapy is currently used in transfusion medicine, bone marrow transplantation, orthopedics and in dermatology. Although clinical trials have clearly documented the potential for novel cell therapies, cell supply has been severely limiting and is the main obstacle to more wide-spread success. Islet transplants have worked for type 1 diabetes, fetal cells were successful for severe Parkinson's disease and hepatocytes have been useful for the treatment of metabolic disease. Stem cell biology promises to solve the problem of limited cell availability by finding ways to isolate cells from living donors, cadavers or immortal stem cell sources.
Function/Duties of Position
Your duties and responsibilities as a post doctoral scholar will be to perform research on liver gene therapy. Multiple gene delivery methods will be used including LNPs, rAAV vectors, lentiviral vector and adenoviral vectors. Previous experience with rAAV vector biology and in vivo rodent experiments is desirable. In addition, knowledge about endodermal tissues, bioinformatics and gene expression analysis are important skills.
You will be expected to participate in journal clubs, attend seminars, departmental retreats, and generally take advantage of as many educational opportunities at the University as possible. You will also be expected to: assist in research design and execution; supervise technical personnel, and students; assist in the preparation of grant applications, presentations, and manuscripts; and other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
MD and/or Ph.D.
Molecular biology bench work.
Virology; gene therapy, tissue culture; molecular biology, mouse genetics.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D.
At least 3 years of hands-on bench work.
Virology, gene therapy, tissue culture, molecular biology, animal models and animal surgery.
