Overview Program Assistant Substitute Status: Part-Time Days: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday Hours: 2:00pm - 5:00pm Wednesdays 1:00pm -4:00pm Pay Rate: $20.24/hour Now Hiring for Fall 2026 Programs JOB SUMMARY: This is a substitute position. The Sub can be assigned to various sites across a school district, depending on daily needs arising from staff callouts. While there is not a guaranteed daily shift or location, the Sub must be ready to travel and cover assignments at different locations, as required. It is the responsibility of the Sub to respond and commit to covering open shifts as they become available in a timely manner. Under the direction of the Expanded Learning Site Supervisor or designee, support Community Provider Enrichment activities at elementary or intermediate expanded learning program sites. Instructional Assistant Providers must develop rapport to encourage and motivate students to participate in Community Provider Enrichment activities. Employees assume responsibility for a variety of duties assigned in conjunction with the Expanded Learning program requirements. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Work with and support TK-8th grade students in small and large groups during Community Provider Enrichment rotations.• Check in students, take attendance, and follow student dismissal procedures.• Implement effective classroom management, discipline and instructional strategies.• Monitor and evaluate the program and student's progress.• Maintain the classroom or learning facility in a clean, organized and healthful manner; storage of materials is required on a daily basis.• Supervise students in and out of classroom during various after-school activities.• Maintain frequent and regular parent communication and support parent involvement.• Attend staff meetings/planning/training sessions on a regular basis or as required.• Perform related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION: • High School Diploma or equivalent.• A minimum of 48 Semester/60 Quarter College Units or pass NCLB test. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: • Must pass Live Scan (criminal background check via fingerprinting).• Provide a clear TB test.• Reliable transportation is required to meet the needs of the position.• While driving is not a regular requirement of this role, employees who operate a personal or company vehicle for work purposes must maintain a valid driver's license and current auto insurance on file with HR. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: • College-level reading, writing, grammar, spelling, punctuation, mathematics and/or science.• Written and verbal communication principles and practices• Clerical duties in support of classroom and program activities.• Computer use and related software.• Diversity of community, city and school District cultures and languages.• State academic standards and various assessments, including SAT, ACT, etc. preferable.• College application and financial aid process and applications preferable. ABILITY TO: • Understand and follow oral and written directions.• Communicate effectively in both oral and written English.• Learn the procedures and functions of assigned duties.• Establish and maintain effective, positive working relationships with students, staff, and administration.• Motivate and encourage students to succeed and overcome obstacles to learning.• Learn, understand and apply rules, regulations, procedures and policies.• Work confidentially with discretion.• Perform simple clerical duties.• Perform the essential functions of the job. WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: • Indoor/outdoor Classroom and Playground environment.• Moderate noise (examples: typical school noise with children at play). PHYSICAL ABILITIES: • Seeing to monitor student work and read materials.• Hearing and speaking accurately to exchange information.• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate instructional equipment.• Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students.• Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.• Lifting or moving objects, normally not exceeding thirty (30) pounds. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: • Must be available for the entire shift schedule.• Must be willing to travel to other sites to cover staff callouts.• Responsible for responding and committing to cover open shifts as they become available. COMPUTER SKILLS: • Word processing• Use typical office equipment, E-mail, and Internet software.• Web browsing and electronic file management.• Zoom, Google Classroom, and other digital platforms.
