    "ExternalDescriptionStr": "<p><span>Responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled to skilled work in the maintenance and repair of the City’s water and wastewater pump stations, buildings, facilities, heavy duty and specialized equipment and grounds. &nbsp;An employee in this class performs a variety of tasks related to the maintenance and repair activities associated with City-owned water and wastewater pump stations, buildings, facilities and grounds. Work includes performing various maintenance tasks such as electrical, mechanical and plumbing repairs to pump stations, buildings, grounds and related facilities. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor and is reviewed for lasting quality, effectiveness, appearance and functionality through conference, inspection and records.</span><br>\n  &nbsp;</p>\n<p><span><u>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS</u></span></p>\n<p>Performs a variety of maintenance tasks including routine maintenance and repair activities associated with the City’s water and wastewater pumping stations&nbsp;and water storage tanks.</p>\n<p>Performs journey level maintenance on heavy duty and specialized water and sewer equipment; troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing and maintaining water and sewer pumps and motors.</p>\n<p>Performs regular preventive maintenance, which includes checking lubrication on water and sewer pumps and motors and having the ability to recognize issues with this&nbsp;equipment</p>\n<p>May perform limited electrical troubleshooting and repairs but only at the direction and supervision of a City approved “Qualified Electrical Professional”. Level of work performed will be based on level of knowledge, training, and experience of the individual.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Expectations will be defined by the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.</p>\n<p>Maintains grounds surrounding pump station and water storage tank sites and&nbsp;associated rights-of-way.</p>\n<p>Troubleshoots problems and performs skilled plumbing and mechanical repairs.</p>\n<p>Otains materials, supplies, tools and equipment using established purchasing procedures.</p>\n<p>Keeps records of work activities in Cityworks</p>\n<p>Serves time on standby and answers after hours call for emergencies.</p>\n<p>Assists in other divisions as needed.</p>\n<p>Participates in the City's safety program and adheres to safety procedures and policies.</p>\n<p>Performs other related job duties as assigned.<br><br>\n  &nbsp;</p>\n<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS FACILITIES MAINTENANCE MECHANIC CAREER LADDER</strong></p>\n<p>&nbsp;</p>\n<p><strong><u>Facilities Maintenance Mechanic I -Grade 12 - $44,800 - $56,492</u></strong><br>\n  &nbsp;</p>\n<p><i><strong><u>Education and Experience:</u></strong></i><br>\n  High school diploma or equivalency; and minimum of two (2) years of experience in semi-skilled to skilled trades work such as plumbing, electrical and mechanical repair; or &nbsp; an equivalent combination of education and experience.<br>\n  &nbsp;</p>\n<p><strong><u>Special Qualifications:&nbsp;Requirement exists at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment</u></strong><br>\n  •Possession of a valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle</p>\n<p>•Possession of a NC Grade C Water Distribution System Operator certification; or NC Grade I Wastewater Collection System Operator certification; or NC Grade I Maintenance Technologist certification; or ability to obtain one or more within 18 months of employment.</p>\n<p>&nbsp;</p>\n<p><strong><u>Facilities Maintenance Mechanic II -Grade 13 - $47,040 - $59,316</u></strong></p>\n<p><i><strong><u>Education and Experience:&nbsp;</u></strong></i><br>\n  High school diploma or equivalency; and three (3) years of experience in skilled trades such as plumbing, electrical and mechanical repair; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. &nbsp;&nbsp;<br>\n  &nbsp;</p>\n<p><strong><u>Special Qualifications:&nbsp;Requirement exists at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment</u></strong></p>\n<p><strong>•</strong> Possession of a valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle. &nbsp;</p>\n<p>• Possession of NC Water Distribution System Operator Grade B; or NC Grade II Wastewater Collection System Operator certification; &nbsp; &nbsp;or NC Grade II Maintenance&nbsp;Technologist certification.</p>\n<p>• Confined Space Certified</p>\n<p>• Trenching and Shoring Certified</p>\n<p>•&nbsp;Fall Protection Certified</p>\n<p>•&nbsp;CPR and First Aid Certified</p>\n<p>•&nbsp;Flagger Certification</p>\n<p>•&nbsp;Lock out Tag out Certified</p>\n<p>•&nbsp;ARC Flash training</p>\n<p>•&nbsp;Must have worked as Facilities Maintenance Mechanic I for a minimum of 1 year.
