    "description": "<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">POSITION SUMMARY   </span><br></p>\n<p>Margaret Bahen Hospice, part of the Better Living family of organizations, has an opening for the position of Casual Registered Nurse. The Registered Nurse (RN) shall, through the nursing process, determine and provide the professional care needed by the Residents in collaboration with the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN), the attending physician, and other members of the transdisciplinary team.  The RN will provide leadership to the RPNs, PSWs, hospice volunteers and other members of the care team to develop and maintain a Resident centred, goal oriented plan of care.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><em><span>This position reports to Director of Care.  </span></em></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario. Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing (BScN) preferred.</li>\n<li>Canadian Nursing Association (CAN) certification in hospice palliative care, or a commitment to achieve designation within a year.</li>\n<li>Minimum of 2 years related work experience in community healthcare, long term care or hospital setting. Preference given to individuals with work experience in hospice or palliative care.</li>\n<li>Successful completion of Vulnerable Sector Screening within one month of employment.</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Knowledge of, and an aptitude for, the specialty of palliative and end of life care.</li>\n<li>An understanding of, and commitment to, the hospice philosophy of care.</li>\n<li>Sound understanding of the responsibilities and scope of the Registered Nurse (RN) within the transdisciplinary team.</li>\n<li>Experience providing leadership to a transdisciplinary care team including RPNs, PSWs, volunteers, Caregivers, and other hospice team members.</li>\n<li>Expertise in pain and symptom management.</li>\n<li>Sound clinical judgement, problem solving, and decision making skills.</li>\n<li>Ability to effectively utilize electronic resident records to support all aspects of the delivery of care.</li>\n<li>Strong assessment skills. Knowledge of Palliative Performance Scale (PPS) and Edmonton Symptom Assessment (ESAS) an asset.</li>\n<li>Excellent interpersonal skills required. Ability to work in a supportive manner with Residents, Caregivers, and medical professionals in order to effectively respond to the needs of Residents.</li>\n<li>Ability to manage multiple workplace demands through strong organizational, prioritization and time management skills.</li>\n<li>Strong written and verbal communication skills.</li>\n<li>Strong clinical documentation skills.</li>\n<li>Physical ability to perform the duties of the position. Which include regularly: standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing and pulling.</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">KEY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES</span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><span>Position Specific </span></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide Resident care in accordance with the professional scope of practice of a Registered Nurse (RN). Specifically: The practice of nursing is the promotion of health and the assessment of, the provision of, care for, and the treatment of health conditions by a supportive, preventative, therapeutic, palliative and rehabilitative means in order to attain or maintain optimal function. The nurse shall follow the thirteen (13) controlled acts as stated by the College of Nurses of Ontario (Nursing Act 1991).</li>\n<li>Participate in the development, implementation, ongoing evaluation of a plan of care that reflects the Resident’s and Caregiver’s history, needs, goals, wishes and preferences.</li>\n<li>Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care of residents according to evidence-based methods and best practices of hospice and palliative care.</li>\n<li>Routinely assess Resident’s pain and symptoms to ensure comfort is maintained.</li>\n<li>Evaluate the Resident’s and/or Caregiver’s psychosocial and spiritual wellbeing a minimum of once a shift or more frequently as required.</li>\n<li>As determined by the transdisciplinary team, consult with Home and Community Care, community hospice and other stakeholders to ensure additional services required to meet the Resident’s needs are provided.</li>\n<li>Utilize the Resident Record to carry out and maintain a current plan of care; communicate with the transdisciplinary team; document assessment outcomes; and record interactions with the Resident and/or Caregiver(s) that are pertinent to the plan of care.</li>\n<li>Oversee the administration of medication and treatment for all Residents; implement medical interventions as required or ordered; and take primary responsibility for the medical care of Residents with high acuity.</li>\n<li>Communicate and consult with appropriate members of the hospice care team with respect to Resident care. Specifically the RN will work with the RPN to determine appropriate Resident care assignment based on care needs and stability.</li>\n<li>Notify and consult with the physician in charge regarding significant changes in the Resident’s status and/or needs.</li>\n<li>Provides support and leadership to the interdisciplinary care team including, but not limited to, RPNs, PSWs, and volunteers.</li>\n<li>In the absence of the Director of Care assumes the position of person in charge of Resident care.</li>\n<li>Participate in transdisciplinary meetings, rounds, family conferences and committees as requested or required.</li>\n<li>Other duties as assigned by the Director of Care.</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"> KEY ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide services in keeping with the organization’s <em>Mission, Vision and Beliefs</em> and <em>Resident Declaration of Values</em>.</li>\n<li>Adhere to the principles and expectations outlined in the <em>Code of Conduct.</em></li>\n<li>Adhere to the <em>Personal Health Information Protection Act (</em>PHIPA 2010) as outlined in the organization privacy policies and procedures.</li>\n<li>Perform the functions of job description in compliance with the Health and Safety practices of the organization and in accordance with the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act.</li>\n<li>Participate in the continuous quality improvement activities of the organization in order to advance a culture of quality and support ongoing compliance with CARF Accreditation standards.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><span> </span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">LOCATION:</span> Margaret Bahen Hospice</li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">SALARY: </span>Commensurate with experience</li>\n</ul>\n<p><span> </span></p>\n<p><span>Better Living is an equal opportunity employer and is in accordance with the <em>Ontario Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act</em> and <em>Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act</em>.
