Assists with snow removal and minimal landscaping.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong><u>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</u></strong></p>\n<p><strong>Road Maintenance Worker I ($38,722/year- $58,082/year DOE)</strong></p>\n<p>A valid Driver’s License accepted by the State of Utah is required at the time of hire, in order to operate a county vehicle.</p>\n<p>Must possess a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at the time of hire OR obtain the Class B CDL within sixty (60) days of hire date to operate a Salt Lake County vehicle.</p>\n<p>Must possess a current Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Card at the time of hire OR obtain within thirty (30) days of hire date.</p>\n<p>Must attend flagging training and certify within sixty (60) days and recertify every two (2) years.</p>\n<p>Must attend a Defensive Driving course within the first two (2) weeks of hire and recertify as required by county policy.</p>\n<p>Must attend and be forklift certified within four (4) months (120 days) of hire.</p>\n<p>Must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test before starting in this position. Will be subject to random alcohol and drug testing. The omission of specific duties and responsibilities will not preclude it from the position.</em></p>\n<p><em>Applicants must be prepared to demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.</em></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Assists in crack sealing, asphalt patching, mill and overlay, slurry preparation and resurfacing of roadways.</li>\n <li>Prepares roadways for the application of asphalt by grading and compacting road base. Spreads and compacts asphalt.</li>\n <li>Assists with concrete installation and removal. Assists in floating and finishing concrete.</li>\n <li>Sets up traffic warning signs, traffic cones, barricades, and flags traffic.</li>\n <li>Operates a variety of small hand tools & Equipment.</li>\n <li>Removes snow from roadways.</li>\n <li>May operate some heavy equipment including 10-wheeler, Bobtail Truck and Street Sweeper.</li>\n <li>Maintains tools and equipment by keeping them clean, repaired, and stored securely when not in use; performs minor repairs.</li>\n <li>Complies with OSHA and/or MUTCD safety rules and regulations.</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong><u>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA) </u></strong></p>\n<p><strong>Knowledge of:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Methods, materials, and equipment necessary to perform road/ storm drain construction, landscaping, maintenance/repair, and snow removal work</li>\n <li>Equipment operating principles and procedures</li>\n <li>Hazards and safety precautions common to road/storm drain construction, landscaping, maintenance/repair, and snow removal work</li>\n <li>Pertinent OSHA and/or MUTCD safety rules and regulations</li>\n <li>Salt Lake County geography</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Skills and Abilities:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Operate a light truck (pick-up) , bob-tail truck, 10-wheeler dump truck, sander unit, snow-plow unit, and other equipment.</li>\n <li>Use standard and specialized tools and materials common to several trades</li>\n <li>Follow verbal and written procedures and instructions</li>\n <li>Perform heavy manual labor in all weather conditions</li>\n <li>Prepare daily records of work performed</li>\n <li>Keep in compliance with and follow standard practices and procedures common to road/storm drain construction, landscaping, maintenance/repair, and snow removal work</li>\n <li>Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other Departments/Divisions, and the general public</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong><u>WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS</u></strong></p>\n<p>This position requires extensive physical labor (approximately 90% of the time) including, but not restricted to: lifting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending, standing, walking on uneven ground, and climbing ladders.</p>\n<p>Applicants must be able to carry objects over 50 lbs. (occasionally up to 100 lbs. with some assistance).
