In 2018, Glatfelter joined American International Group (AIG) and is now part of the AIG family.</p><p><strong>About the Position</strong></p><p>Glatfelter Insurance Group is seeking an <strong>Underwriting Supervisor</strong> for our Glatfelter Healthcare team who will support the Program Manager in managing the underwriting of an assigned Program including responsibility for profit and loss. &nbsp;The position is responsible for demonstrating exemplary customer relationships with producers and all Glatfelter associates through demonstrated professional communications skills. &nbsp;The supervisor assumes responsibility for the Program Manager when that individual is not available. The supervisor will manage the quality and quantity of work performed by the P&amp;C Underwriters, and provide guidance, training, and support to the underwriting staff. &nbsp;</p><p>This position is required to be onsite at our Leader Heights, York, PA office.</p><p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p><ul type=\"disc\"><li>Manages the daily underwriting of the property &amp; casualty book of insurance business within delegated underwriting authority to assure adherence to GIG underwriting guidelines and appropriate risk selection and pricing. &nbsp;</li><li>Monitors employee&rsquo;s adherence to authority delegation, oversees underwriting activities through internal referrals, file reviews and periodic internal audit.&nbsp;</li><li>Manages workflow and processing issues within assigned territory and may maintain underwriting responsibility for an assigned group of agents.</li><li>On a referral basis, accepts, rejects or requests additional information from the submitting client.&nbsp;</li><li>On a referral basis, receives and reviews new business submissions for completeness and acceptability.&nbsp;</li><li>Reviews exception renewals in accordance with guidelines and recommends pricing and coverage changes.</li><li>Reviews and takes appropriate action within their authority on any transaction(s) that exceed the written underwriting authority of the Underwriter.&nbsp;</li><li>Monitors rate vs. target, pricing standards/guidelines, risk control and claims activities for accounts within assigned territory or book of business.</li><li>Evaluates and compares competitor&#39;s forms and coverages in conjunction with Product or Program Manager.</li><li>Assists Program Manager with edits or revisions to program underwriting guidelines or coverage forms.</li><li>In conjunction with the Program Manager and other Underwriting Supervisors, establishes, implements, and communicates divisional underwriting philosophies and systems.&nbsp;</li><li>Reviews appeals by clients and recommends appropriate action.&nbsp;</li><li>Responds to inquiries from clients regarding pricing and coverage issues.&nbsp;</li><li>Refers and suggests action on any unusual exposures to the Program Manager for approval.&nbsp;</li><li>Communicates with program sales staff regarding current market conditions, problems, and opportunities in region.</li><li>Attends agent meetings, conventions, trade shows, visits client offices as needed.&nbsp;</li><li>Prepares and submits reports for management use as required.&nbsp;</li><li>Plans and assists with product knowledge seminars as needed.&nbsp;</li><li>Assists with the recruitment and selection of new underwriting associates.</li><li>Coordinates and guides training through the creation and management of performance plans to support staff growth and professional development.</li><li>Monitors the quality and quantity of work by underwriters and underwriting assistants in respective program area.</li><li>Maintains OnBase files consistent with standard file procedures</li><li>Evaluates the performance of direct reports on an ongoing basis and provides feedback and coaching, as needed, and conducts annual performance reviews on a timely basis.</li><li>Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by management</li></ul><p><strong>What We&rsquo;re Looking For</strong></p><ul type=\"disc\"><li>BA degree in insurance, business or related field preferred or appropriate industry related experience.&nbsp;</li><li>Must attain or be working toward AU, CPCU, ARM designation or comparable higher insurance education.</li><li>Must have a minimum of five (5) years commercial lines underwriting or related experience in either an insurance company or in an agency. &nbsp;&nbsp;</li><li>Must have or attain within three (3) months and maintain current property-casualty license for resident state and other licenses as required. &nbsp;</li><li>Prior supervisory experience required.</li><li>Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of GIG underwriting authority and underwriting rules, risk selection and pricing, available coverage, industry and regional issues and trends.&nbsp;</li><li>Demonstrated ability to work with agency distributors toward desired outcome; relationship building.</li><li>Mathematical ability required to properly equate exposure with premium and understand significance of management reports and actuarial reviews.</li><li>Demonstrated leadership and coaching ability&nbsp;</li><li>Accountable, confident and self-directed with the ability to work independently and function as a team leader and a team player.</li><li>Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate to a wide variety of personalities in one on one and group meetings and through formal presentations.</li><li>Ability to influence others to desired outcome</li><li>Ability to cope with stressful situations.</li><li>Organizational skills and ability to handle tasks on a priority basis required to maintain consistent high quality and quantity of work.</li><li>Ability to provide direction to all underwriting staff within the respective assignment and to manage and monitor production within the underwriting teams.</li><li>Demonstrated proficiency in use of Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel.</li><li>Additional knowledge and skills as detailed in the Underwriting Skill Matrix.</li></ul><p><strong>Why Choose Glatfelter?</strong></p><p>Glatfelter is honored to have been named a Best Place to Work in PA since 2005.
