Description Annual salary starting at $134,000 Job Summary Plans, develops, directs, coordinates, and evaluates the on-going Development Programs at Divisional Headquarters; serves in a consultative role with officers, public relations, and development staff for City Commands and Corps throughout the Arkansas-Oklahoma Division; conducts direct mail fund raising efforts for the Service Units; serves as a liaison between the Army and local and statewide organizations whose activities related to or affect The Salvation Army. Plans, implements, and coordinates the administration of fund-raising strategies in the following areas: Individual Gifts/Donor Upgrading Corporate Gifts/Sponsorships Foundation Support for Programs and Projects Service Unit Mail Appeals Divisional Advisory Board/Board Development Development Audits/Strategic Planning Training Others Public Relations/Marketing/Special Events Education Essential Functions Works with area commands, corps, and service units offering support and guidance to their efforts; directs and monitors Divisional Service Unit Mail Appeals; assists corps in evaluating their mail appeals and all phases of their development needs; maintains rapport with direct mail vendors and their representatives. Supervises, prioritizes, and coordinates work of clerical and other development staff to ensure efficient and productive work flow; ensures efficient record keeping system is established and maintained; instructs and trains personnel in the proper methods and techniques; reviews, monitors, and inspects work for accuracy and completeness; motivates development employees’ performance, provides job descriptions, hiring/firing, and salary adjustment recommendations. Plans, supervises, prioritizes, coordinates, and evaluates phases of Development Programs listed above for the Arkansas/Oklahoma Divisional Headquarters; directs day-to-day operations of the divisional development office. Conduct staff meetings when needed to train, motivate, and review progress, needs, and plans; defines working relationships and communications systems to assure coordination and cooperation between departments at Divisional Headquarters. Discusses questions and resolves development issues; monitors work for compliance with Divisional Headquarters and/or the Territorial Community Relations Department, when applicable. Plans, makes recommendations, and monitors the budget for the Divisional Headquarters Development Department; ensures that department expenditures are within budget constraints. Coordinates all communications to the Divisional Advisory Board; proposes agendas and maintains minutes of all meetings; solicits new members from local advisory boards with assistance of the Divisional Commander; gives special recognition to board members when applicable. Provides a written progress report for the Divisional Commander on a quarterly basis. Personal Development Responsibilities Coordinates the details necessary to secure and process direct mail gifts for the Arkansas/Oklahoma Service Units. Coordinates activities of the Oklahoma City Area Command Planned Giving Committee with oversight by the Divisional Planned Giving Director. Services current donors who have made a gift to The Salvation Army; builds and maintains effective relationships with donors; maintains open and direct channels of communication; ensures that donors are treated fairly and with sensitivity; resolves problems and responds to questions. Prepares and maintains records of all phone calls, correspondence, visitation data sheets, and a calendar of all contacts; maintains affluent prospect and donor files and status reports; receives and responds to donor mail. In the areas of the division where there are no development or resource development personnel assigned, solicits donations and cultivates relationships with donors, corporations, and foundations, in order to develop, secure, and maintain new income sources; ensures that all requests from donors and potential donors for information and clarification are responded to in an accurate, timely, tactful, and professional manner; evaluates day-to-day fund raising efforts to ensure that fund raising goals are met and/or surpassed. When needed, confers directly with attorneys, corporations, and foundation representatives, and other professionals in the community; ensures gifts are processed in compliance with established IRS, legal, and The Salvation Army policies and procedures. Works closely with Public Relations Director for the Arkansas/Oklahoma Division to accomplish integrated marketing and fund raising goals throughout the division using media advertising, direct mail, and divisional publications; performs public speaking and represents The Salvation Army in a professional manner at all times; contacts newspapers and magazines to obtain advertising prices and scheduling for fund raising program advertisements; builds and maintains effective working relationships with professionals in the community; promotes The Salvation Army fund raising programs. Other Responsibilities Promotes, organizes, and participates in financial development seminars for the Division; works with the local officers, advisory organizations, and committees to develop local promotional plans; conducts presentations to the Advisory Boards. Attends at least one extra-organizational national professional conference each year (NSFRE, NCPG, etc.); reviews and studies various fund-raising practices and legislation in relation to fund raising and taxation. Attends and participates in the annual Territorial Headquarters Development Conference. Attends educational seminars and training for planned giving; maintains awareness of Resource Development and Planned Giving Programs; coordinates and communicates regularly with Major Gifts and Planned Giving staff so that duplication of efforts are avoided. Performs other related work as required. Physical Requirements Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing amongst a diverse group of people. Ability to perform mathematical calculations. Ability to travel throughout the Division on a frequent basis to work with divisional financial development staff, their clients, and professionals of their communities. Working Conditions Work is performed in a normal office environment with some exposure to outdoor temperatures and physical discomforts associated with traveling by vehicle and/or airplane. Qualifications Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field, And Five to seven years experience performing progressively responsible development work in a charitable organization with at least two years supervisory experience, preferably within a Division of The Salvation Army, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Certifications/Licenses Valid State Driver’s License National Society of Fund-Raising Executives (NSFRE) Certification as Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CRFE) is desirable.
