    "description": "<p><strong>$17.32 without CDL.&nbsp; $19.24 with CDL</strong></p>\n\n<p><strong><u>General Description:</u></strong></p>\n\n<p>The purpose of this class within the organization is to lead and participate with crew performing general labor duties and maintenance in the Water and Sewer department.&nbsp;This class works under close supervision according to set procedures.<br />\n&nbsp;</p>\n\n<p><strong><u>Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:</u></strong></p>\n\n<p>Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.&nbsp;&nbsp;Requires six months in general labor work, including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance, repair, or construction of water and/or sewer lines or closely related experience.&nbsp;Some knowledge of pipefitting and plumbing is helpful.&nbsp;The equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered.</p>\n\n<p><br />\n<strong><u>Special Certifications and Licenses:</u></strong></p>\n\n<p>Valid Class A Commercial Driver&#39;s License (CDL) and current DOT Medical Card required, or the ability to obtain at the conclusion of the Introductory Period. Other training provided after hire and required to maintain position includes various safety training such as defensive driving, bloodborne pathogens, forklift, hazard communications, slips and falls, chainsaw, GIS, CityWorks, and Water &amp; Sewer certifications for distribution and collection systems.</p>\n\n<p><br />\n<strong><u>Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:</u></strong></p>\n\n<ul>\n\t<li>Knowledge of skills, procedures, codes, regulations, etc. needed to complete job tasks.&nbsp;</li>\n\t<li>Knowledge of the precautions necessary to work safely with and around mechanized construction and maintenance equipment.</li>\n\t<li>Knowledge of the types and uses of common hand tools, materials, and standard equipment used in general maintenance, construction, and repair.</li>\n\t<li>General knowledge of water systems, plumbing, piping, valves, meters, hydrants, and other appurtenances.</li>\n\t<li>Ability to follow correct procedures and make good decisions.</li>\n\t<li>Ability to understand and carry out specific oral or written instructions.</li>\n\t<li>Ability to perform manual tasks involving physical strength and endurance under variable weather conditions.</li>\n\t<li>Ability to effectively communicate and present information in a clear and concise manner, both orally and in writing.</li>\n\t<li>Ability to obtain a &ldquo;D&rdquo; certification for Water Distribution Operator.</li>\n\t<li>Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines.</li>\n\t<li>Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers.&nbsp; Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills.</li>\n\t<li>Ability to operate heavy equipment preferred (excavators, backhoes, etc.).</li>\n\t<li>Work is performed onsite.&nbsp; The incumbent must be present at work to perform the essential functions of this job.</li>\n</ul>\n\n<p>&nbsp;</p>\n\n<p><strong><u>Essential Job Functions:</u></strong></p>\n\n<ol>\n\t<li>Assists in maintaining water system and equipment to eliminate lost time and optimize system performance.</li>\n\t<li>Operates medium to heavy duty trucks, construction, and mechanized equipment.
