Job Summary Come work as a Regional Epidemiologist, Public Health Surveillance Unit with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)! Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Regional Epidemiologist, Public Health Surveillance Unit to join the Public Health Surveillance Unit team. Apply today to join our team! As a Regional Epidemiologist, Public Health Surveillance Unit with Vancouver Coastal Health you will: Work to monitor disease trends and health indicators for the purpose of the implementation of effective prevention strategies in Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH). Establish, maintain and periodically evaluate the regional surveillance data for diseases, health indicators and determinants of health. Collaborate and consult with other program areas within the Office of the Chief Medical Health Officer the Regional Epidemiologist will have a role on regional public health matters. Develop key internal partnerships including with Medical Health Officers, Public Health Nurses, Environmental Health Officers, Infection Control Practitioners, Population Health, Health Protection, Emergency Management, as well as external colleagues at other health authorities, regional/hospital Epidemiologists, and provincial and federal Epidemiologists and laboratories. Qualifications Education & Experience Masters’ degree or PhD in Epidemiology or related discipline. Preference is given to candidates with at least two years of recent related experience in public health surveillance and evidence of strong methodological skills in study design and data analysis. Knowledge & Abilities Exhibits strong epidemiologic and quantitative skills. Leads collation and interpretation of relevant epidemiological data. Will develop and utilize information and intelligence systems to underpin public health action across disciplines and organizations. Will undertake evidence-based reviews for specific project and programme work. Applies superior communication skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, providing advice, guidance and education consistent with good public health practice. Maintains current knowledge of new developments, trends and research in public health surveillance. Uses a variety of software applications at an advanced level to develop databases, conduct statistical analyses and prepare reports. Closing Statement As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
