Program Description:
The Family Practice Residency Program at WellSpan York Hospital has a long history of excellence, supported by a strong institutional commitment to graduate medical education and rooted in a community where family physicians serve as the primary providers of care. Fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), the program prepares residents to practice the full spectrum of family medicine in a respectful, supportive learning environment that prioritizes educational quality and the development of a diverse physician workforce.
This position centers on behavioral science education and advancing a biopsychosocial approach to patient care—an essential component of training well‑rounded family physicians.
General Summary
Develops and coordinates the implementation of a curriculum in Psychiatry and Behavioral Science for the Family Practice Residency Program.

Essential Functions:
Develops and coordinates the implementation of a curriculum in Psychiatry and Behavioral Science for the Family Medicine Residency Program. This curriculum must meet the “Essentials” for Family Practice residency training as outlined by the RRC of the ACGME. Teaches patient-centered interviewing and office-based counseling skills through direct observation and supervision which may include videotape review and critique of doctor-patient encounters. Instructs residents and medical students in the assessment and management of psychological disorders and conditions commonly encountered in primary care, promotes awareness of behavioral health community resources and assists with referrals. Coordinates/conducts behavioral science lectures. Leads or facilitates support groups and Balint seminars for residents. Oversees use of standardized patients for competency acquisition and assessment. Assists in the development of new standardized patient scenarios as necessary for the acquisition of necessary skill sets in doctor-patient communication. Advises physician faculty in the development and implementation of remedial interventions for identified residents. Common Expectations:
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops. Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.

This curriculum must meet the “Essentials” for Family Practice residency training as outlined by the RRC of the ACGME.</li><li>Teaches patient-centered interviewing and office-based counseling skills through direct observation and supervision which may include videotape review and critique of doctor-patient encounters.</li><li>Instructs residents and medical students in the assessment and management of psychological disorders and conditions commonly encountered in primary care, promotes awareness of behavioral health community resources and assists with referrals.</li><li>Coordinates/conducts behavioral science lectures.</li><li>Leads or facilitates support groups and Balint seminars for residents.</li><li>Oversees use of standardized patients for competency acquisition and assessment. Assists in the development of new standardized patient scenarios as necessary for the acquisition of necessary skill sets in doctor-patient communication.</li><li>Advises physician faculty in the development and implementation of remedial interventions for identified residents.</li></ul><p><strong>Common Expectations:</strong></p><ul><li>Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops.</li><li>Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.</li></ul><p> </p>",
