Description

Weston & Sampson is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to lead transformative transportation projects that enhance safety, mobility, and quality of life across communities in the Southeast. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of how people move—through innovative design, data-driven solutions, and strategic planning. What you’ll do: Lead and manage traffic engineering projects, including traffic operations studies, signal design, and corridor analysis. Perform and oversee traffic modeling and simulation using tools such as Synchro, HCS, and VISSIM. Develop detailed plans for traffic signals, signing and pavement markings, and traffic control in compliance with state and local standards. Conduct safety assessments, intersection improvement studies, and access management evaluations to enhance roadway performance. Coordinate effectively with clients, DOTs, municipalities, MPOs, and subconsultants to ensure timely and successful project delivery. Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians, including QA/QC reviews to uphold quality standards. Support business development through proposal writing, scope definition, and cultivating strong client relationships. Stay informed on evolving transportation policies, standards, and emerging technologies impacting traffic operations, safety, and design. What you’ll bring: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, or Florida — or ability to obtain within 6 months. PTOE certification is preferred. Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in traffic or transportation engineering. Strong knowledge of DOT Design Manuals, MUTCD, AASHTO, and relevant state DOT standards. Proficiency in Synchro, HCS, VISSIM, and MicroStation or AutoCAD; experience with TransModeler is a plus. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work directly with clients and agency staff. Experience in ITS design, traffic signal timing, and system optimization. Familiarity with HSIP safety performance evaluations and predictive analysis tools. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. #LI-HYBRID Overview Innovative and reliable for more than a century, Weston & Sampson strives to make the world a better place through interdisciplinary design, engineering, and environmental services. An employee-owned company (ESOP) of more than 725 professionals, we are seeking talented technical and professional individuals to join our growing firm. Dedicated to improving quality of life for both our clients and our employees, we offer opportunities to collaborate on meaningful projects that transform the environment, with a team that respects and values your ideas.
