The Journeyman Machinist will setup and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments.</p><p><strong>Essential Responsibilities</strong></p><p>•&nbsp;&nbsp; Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products.<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp; Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp; Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp; Perform precision machine operations using basic and specialized tools.<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp; Responsible for inventory of tools, placing orders and ensuring work area has sufficient stock to perform duties.<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp; Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials onto machines.<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp; Measure, examine and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications.<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp; Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp; Diagnose machine malfunctions and determine need for adjustments or repairs.<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp; Responsible for ensuring quality as well as performing checks on machined pieces to ensure they are properly lubricated and cooled.<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp; Clean and maintain machines, tools and equipment to ensure proper operation.<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp; Establish work procedures for fabricating new structural products.<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp; Evaluate experimental procedures and recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency.<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp; Test experimental models under simulated operating conditions for such purposes as development, standardization, and feasibility of design.<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp; Assist Lead Hands with training and mentoring other employees.<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp; Promote a safety culture as well as attend all safety meetings.<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp; Ensure quality by following standard work/process instructions and identifying any potential risks to product quality.<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp; Valid Journeyman Machinist Ticket or Red Seal certification.<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp; Minimum of 4 years of experience, working as Journeyman in fabrication.<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp; Familiarity with MES (Manufacturing and Execution System).<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp; Safety certifications are an asset for the position.<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp; Experience with machining different materials such as stainless steel and copper.<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp; Due to the safety sensitive nature of this position successful candidates will undergo pre-employment substance abuse and medical testing upon hire.<br>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Working Conditions</strong></p><ul><li>Safety sensitive position in a temperature controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.</li><li>Required to wear personnel protective equipment at all times (i.e., safety glasses, and hearing protection) when required.</li><li>Working around loud machinery.</li></ul><p><strong>Physical Requirements</strong></p><ul><li>Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs.</li><li>Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction in a repetitive manner continuously.</li><li>Continuous standing, walking 50-300 foot distances for long periods of time with only occasional sitting.</li><li>Must be able to climb stairs frequently throughout the shift.</li><li>Able to frequently look over shoulders, work with both arms above shoulders and use both arms at full length frequently.</li><li>Using upper extremities to apply or exert a force continuously up to 50lbs.</li><li>Ability to use hand tools such as tin snips, hammer, and power tools (some vibrating), for long periods of time with frequent repetition.</li></ul><p><strong>Who we are</strong></p><p>Powell Canada Inc. is a subsidiary of Powell Industries, which is located in Houston, Texas.
