Provides nursing care for patients and families and maintains a practice environment that reflects the ANA Code for Nurses, Philosophy of Nursing at Iowa Health Des Moines within the structure of the Professional Nurse Practice Model and in collaboration with other care givers. Complete patient forms and requests medical records/correspondence to be scanned into the electronic health record.</li>\n <li>Schedule referrals for patients with specialist or outpatient as requested by the provider. Complete appropriate forms or requisitions needed for referrals or lab testing.</li>\n <li>Assesses needs of patients and families, providing appropriate teaching and making the necessary referrals to provide continuity of care.</li>\n <li>Assist provider with patient examination, procedures and emergencies.</li>\n <li>Provide and document advice for home care of illness/condition conducting follow up phone calls regarding patient’s health and progress as directed by provider.</li>\n <li>Perform diagnostic tests and laboratory procedures</li>\n <li>Prepare and assist provider with patient examination, specimen collection, minor procedures and treatment of the patients, including administration of medication under direct supervision of the provider as appropriate to scope and licensure</li>\n <li>Demonstrate knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately</li>\n <li>Thoroughly understand testing (lab and procedures) values and relationship to patient status with accountability to take next steps as directed, and as appropriate to scope and licensure.</li>\n <li>Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.</li>\n <li>Understand inpatient and outpatient specialty procedures. </li>\n <li>Responsible for compliance with precertification requirements.</li>\n <li>Utilizes protocols to triage and address patient concerns and symptoms. Appropriately seeks direction from provider regarding illness related calls.</li>\n <li>Maintain inventory for clinical supplies.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<p><strong>No oncology experience? That’s okay!</strong> We welcome RNs from a variety of backgrounds. Our team provides comprehensive training and mentorship to help you build confidence and develop expertise in oncology nursing. You’ll learn symptom management and patient education—all while being supported by experienced oncology professionals every step of the way. <strong>At least one year of RN experience in an acute care or clinic setting is required.</strong></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Education:</strong></p>\n<p>Graduate of accredited nursing program.</p>\n<p>Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>License(s)/Certification(s):</strong></p>\n<p>Commitment to obtain OCN or seek oncology-specific continuing education within 2 years.</p>\n<p>Maintain current licensure in to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa.  </p>\n<p>Must maintain BLS</p>\n<p>Oncology certification (OCN) preferred</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:</strong></p>\n<p>Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.</p>\n<p>Multicultural sensitivity.</p>\n<p>Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Other:</strong></p>\n<p>Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>#HotJobsDSM</p>",
