    "description": "<p>CNC Machinist will set up and operate manually controlled machines in skilled precision and bench work in the fabrication, maintenance, repair, and alteration of machinery, machine parts, tools, and equipment. Collins Machine Works has positions open for both day and night shift at both our Fifth Street and Syer Road locations in Portsmouth, Virginia. </p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Applicant must<span style=\"font-weight: bold\"> be a US citizen.</span> Access to DoD facilities is required. Company is not able to sponsor work visa for this position.</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Sign On Bonus</span></p>\n<p>Collins Machine Works offers a sign on bonus in the amount of $2,000 to be paid after six months of satisfactory employment performance. Collins Machine Works also offers employee referral bonuses in the amount of $1,000 per referral to be paid after the referred employee completed six months of satisfactory employment performance.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Major Responsibilities &amp; Essential Functions</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use precision tools, machinery, and equipment such as lathe, manual milling machine, drill press, hydraulic press, band saw, and a variety of cutting tools and equipment</li>\n<li>Fabricate and shape parts such as tools and machine parts out of metal</li>\n<li>Properly and safely select, align, secure, and remove holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines</li>\n<li>Recognize, deploy, and properly use inserts, fixtures, and tooling</li>\n<li>Studies applicable drawings and prints of work to be performed and follows instructions</li>\n<li>Must be able to determine the proper tools required to perform given task</li>\n<li>Operates and utilizes lifting aids as necessary to perform work</li>\n<li>Use gauges and measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements</li>\n<li>Perform daily, regular cleaning and light maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment</li>\n<li>Ability to track parts and jobs in JobBOSS and Travelers</li>\n<li>Perform all tasks in a safe and responsible manner while maintaining safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations</li>\n<li>Work overtime as needed on evenings and/or weekends</li>\n<li>Communicates with others to coordinate work in plant</li>\n<li>Other duties as assigned</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Preferred Machining Skills</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lathes, Grinders, Boring Mills, Planers, Portable Tools</li>\n<li>Turn, Drill, Tap, Bore, Hone, Polish machine processes</li>\n<li>Large part machining experience preferred (ship propeller shafting, ship steering gear, etc.)</li>\n<li>In-place machining experience is desired</li>\n<li>Forklift and Crane experience preferred</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Qualifications</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>High school diploma or GED</li>\n<li>3 to 5 years related experience is preferred</li>\n<li>Language skills - effectively communicate and understand job instructions both verbally and written in the English language</li>\n<li>Ability to effectively interpret and translate instructions to other employees in a professional and respectful manner</li>\n<li>Familiarity with Fanuc, Mazatrol, Okuma, DMG/Mori CNC controls</li>\n<li>Have experience with maintaining 0.001\" tolerances</li>\n<li>Have a basic understanding of G, D and T</li>\n<li>Have experience in job setup on vertical and horizontal CNC machining centers and CNC turning centers</li>\n<li>Willing to work at both Portsmouth, VA locations as job needs require</li>\n<li>Ability and willingness to learn</li>\n<li>Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions</li>\n<li>Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables</li>\n<li>A strong, proven interest in engineering and mechanical systems</li>\n<li>Read blueprints and measuring tools</li>\n<li>Ability to perform basic mathematical computations</li>\n<li>Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations, and proportions to practical situations</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">PHYSICAL DEMANDS</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ability to move or transfer products with an overhead crane</li>\n<li>Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs. at a time when required</li>\n<li>While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach overhead with hands and arms, stoop, crouch, kneel, climb ladders, and use stairs</li>\n<li>Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus</li>\n<li>The employee will also be expected to spend time using a computer</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">WORK ENVIRONMENT</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.</li>\n<li>The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.</li>\n</ul>",
