This role provides patient centric care and is primarily responsible for nursing assessment and diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>This position will be 1.0FTE/full-time Monday-Friday from 8am-4:30pm at the Peninsula Clinic in Poulsbo, WA.</strong></p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Assesses physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs and evaluates patients’ adaptation to health changes</li>\n <li>Develops a plan of care based on patients’ disease, symptoms, and response to treatment</li>\n <li>Educates patients, families, and caregivers on disease processes, treatment, side effects and symptom management</li>\n <li>Coordinates with inter-disciplinary team to ensure continuity of care</li>\n <li>Refers patients, families and caregivers as appropriate to other clinical resources/professionals such as social work, home health care, clinical nutrition, etc.</li>\n <li>Implements, evaluates and modifies plan of care</li>\n <li>Integrates research and evidence based knowledge into clinical practice</li>\n</ul>\n<p>In addition to primary responsibilities of the Registered Nurses (RN), the Infusion RN will have the following key responsibilities:</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Nursing Care and Assessment</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Demonstrate knowledge of standard treatment and medication side effects</li>\n <li>Perform nursing assessment, review relevant lab results, assess pain and other symptoms</li>\n <li>Administer IV hydration, electrolyte replacement, chemotherapy/biotherapy, and blood products</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Demonstrate an awareness of the potentially hazardous nature of many of the agents administered and uses correct precautions when handling them</li>\n <li>Follow all procedures regarding safe disposal of any materials used in the administration of chemotherapy or other hazardous agents and blood products</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Patient and Family Education</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Provide patient and family education in coordination with treatment and care plan</li>\n <li>Conduct learning needs assessment for patient and caregiver(s)</li>\n <li>Ensure patients have clinic contact information and understand when to call if symptoms arise or persist post-infusion therapy</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Communication and Teamwork</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Communicate or escalate patient symptoms and concerns to provider as needed</li>\n <li>Collaborate with the care team to provide effective and efficient patient care</li>\n <li>Request consultation from social work, dietician, spiritual care, and or any other supportive care teams when patient's situation indicates</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Professional Development and Clinic Engagement</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Participation in continuing education, departmental projects, committee work, and quality improvement initiatives</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<p><strong>Required:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Graduated from an accredited school of nursing</li>\n <li>Must have a current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license or current NLC multistate license (MSL); and must upgrade to an MSL with primary state of residence, WA, within 60 days of hire. This requirement may be waived under specific circumstances, subject to approval.</li>\n <li>Applicants that do not have previous oncology experience will be provided additional training and support</li>\n <li>Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent course, such as by the American Red Cross) and renewal required every two years</li>\n <li>Additional certification may be required dependent upon the department. </li>\n <li>Critical thinking: the ability to practice the cognitive skills of analyzing, applying standards, discriminating, information seeking, logical reasoning, predicting, and transforming knowledge</li>\n <li>Ability to develop clinical judgment.</li>\n <li>Time Management skills: the ability to organize and manage time and tasks independently</li>\n <li>Ability to communicate effectively by looking and listening for cues, asking open-ended questions, exploring cues, using pauses, screening responses, and clarifying responses.</li>\n <li>Ability to effectively listen by using reflecting, acknowledging, summarizing, empathizing, and paraphrasing skills.</li>\n <li>Ability to effectively provide information by checking what information the person knows already, giving small amounts of information at a time, using clear terms and avoiding jargon, avoiding detail unless it is requested, checking for understanding, and pausing and waiting for a response.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Preferred:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>BSN</li>\n <li>Certification in oncology or specialty practice area</li>\n <li>2 years of RN Oncology experience in an ambulatory infusion setting</li>\n</ul>The hourly pay range for this position is from $47.64 to $88.19 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.  Registered Nurses are paid on a step-scale basis and are also eligible for shift differentials and other pay premiums such as advanced degree, preceptor and certification.   Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position. This position may be eligible for relocation assistance.
