Description

GFT is seeking a Sr Site/Civil Engineer to support a variety of projects in the Midwest region. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at Chicago, IL office. What you'll be challenged to do: GFT is seeking a Sr. Site/Civil Engineer for our site development practice within the buildings & places business group. The position to participate in project teams for the planning, design, and construction administration of public and private projects. Clients and projects may be in various locations in the Midwest region. Candidate must have the flexibility to travel within the region periodically to help serve GFT’s client base. This role supports a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Chicago, IL office The successful candidate will have demonstrated professional experience in site/civil engineering and will contribute to projects spanning a diverse range of project types – including transit facilities, state and local government facilities, educational campus facilities, federal facilities, and private clients. The site/civil practice supports site development components of vertical construction projects as well as site infrastructure improvement projects. In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following: Responsibilities include establishing and enforcing procedures and standards for projects across the business line. This will involve collaborating with PMs to develop processes and training programs. Prepare site/civil engineering designs including typical components of; site plans & details, grading & drainage, stormwater management systems, erosion & sediment control plans, site utilities (storm drain, sanitary sewer, water), site roadways, parking lots and vehicular/pedestrian circulation systems. Perform engineering calculations in support of designs related to stormwater management, on-site utility systems, and earthwork cut/fill analysis. Preparation of construction documents including plans, details, specifications, and related reports/design narratives from concept through permitting, bid phase, and issued for construction. Coordinating work activities with other design team members including related design disciplines. Prepare and submit site/civil related permit applications and supporting documents to authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs). Coordinate and communicate with AHJ reviewers to resolve comments and gain approvals. Oversee, provide technical guidance, and mentor junior-level engineering staff including the reviewing & delegating specific tasks in the preparation of site/civil engineering design & calculations. Utilize a strong understanding of applicable codes, technologies, and design standards to ensure quality and compliance. Exhibit excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic project environment. Take initiative to identify solutions, conduct technical research, and improve design efficiency. Support GFT’s internal QA/QC quality management standards and procedures. What you bring to our firm: BS in Civil Engineering required. Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) required; Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe. 5+ years of site/land development experience required including a thorough knowledge of the requirements of local, State and Federal agencies having site plan approval jurisdiction.
