Description
We are a Diabetes one-stop shop for Continuous Glucose Monitor and Insulin Pump equipment in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.
Job Summary:
The Clinical Education Specialist (CES) is responsible for delivering structured, high‑quality training to patients initiating insulin pump and CGM therapy. This role ensures a safe and effective transition into diabetes technology use, supports ongoing patient education, and contributes to operational efficiency within the Clinical Operations team.
The CES collaborates closely with Clinical Specialists, Account Managers, and other internal teams to enhance patient outcomes, strengthen adherence, and support the organization’s clinical and operational goals.
Responsibilities:
Patient Training
Conduct structured, protocol‑based training sessions for insulin pump systems (e.g., Tandem, iLet) and CGM devices. Ensure patients: Understand basic device operation Initiate therapy safely Demonstrate readiness to begin independent use Document all training activities in ZOHO according to established protocols. Utilize the official Training Checklist to ensure consistency and compliance.
Ongoing Patient Education
Facilitate educational workshops on: Carbohydrate counting Advanced device features Basic data interpretation Provide guidance that supports adherence, confidence, and improved clinical outcomes. Reinforce key concepts taught during initial training.
Support in Medical Clinics
Assist the Clinical Specialist during in‑person or virtual clinics. Support clinic operations by: Preparing patients for their session Managing patient flow Providing basic education as needed
Coordination and Basic Follow‑Up
Schedule patient training appointments and coordinate logistics. Conduct initial post‑training follow‑up to ensure patient stability and address early questions. Escalate all complex or clinically sensitive cases to the Clinical Specialist.
Patient Support
Provides general guidance on product use, reinforcing the education previously provided by the clinical team. Addresses questions related to the training process, initial device use, and logistics. Escalates any complex clinical case to the Clinical Specialist.
Qualifications:
Education
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nutritional Science. Must be a Licensed Nutritionist (current and active license required).
Experience
Three (3) Years of Experience in patient education. Knowledge of diabetes care or diabetes technology preferred.
Working Conditions
May require flexible scheduling to accommodate patient needs. Travel will be required to support patients, clinics or training events. Must adhere to all organizational protocols, patient privacy standards, and clinical documentation requirements.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting while conducting virtual or in‑person patient trainings, documenting in ZOHO, and preparing educational materials. Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate computers, insulin pump devices, CGM equipment, and training tools. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals via phone, video call, and in person. Ability to move within clinic or training environments to set up equipment, prepare materials, and assist with patient flow. Occasional lifting, carrying, or transporting of training kits, device boxes, or educational materials weighing up to 15 pounds. Ability to review detailed device screens, training checklists, and patient documentation for extended periods. Occasional travel to clinics, patient sites, or training events as required by the Clinical Operations team.
