Description Wildlife Control Ranger participates in the implementation of all Conservation programs, projects, and grant-related activities, including: (1) conducting game and non-game animal control activities, to include primary processing of harvested game animals; (2) issues permits and game management materials; (3) compiles and maintains data pertaining to the activities above; (4) assists in the monitoring of Company-owned conservation lands and enforcement of hunting rules; (5) participates in the construction and maintenance of deer exclosures (fencing), wildlife traps, watering units, firing ranges, trails, and other features; (6) participates in ecosystem enrichment to include native plant restoration, eradication of invasive plant and animal species, and restoration of wildlife habitats; and (7) occasional support to other DNR Programs or to other Departments within Pūlama Lāna‘i. On occasion, Rangers may be assigned to work with third-party commercial outfitter. Compensation: $21.69/hour (non-exempt) Reporting Relationship: Reports to: Wildlife Control Manager Supervises: n/a Quality Standards: Conduct individual and business affairs in highest ethical and legal fashion. Establish and contribute to a supportive, creative, enthusiastic, and cooperative working environment for all. Build strong communication links with supervisors, peers, and employees. Continuously strive for excellence in the workplace, the Company environment, and as a Company representative. Comply with all Company policies and standards. Conducts business in alignment with the Mission, Vision, and Values of Pūlama Lāna‘i. Responsibilities Essential Duties Conducts game and non-game control activities; including hunting, trapping, and other methods per standard procedures. Processes harvested axis deer under USDA inspection for commercial and non-commercial purposes. Issues permits and other management materials, and collects permit fees for public hunting. Compiles, enters, and maintains data pertaining to control, management, and public hunting activities. Coordinates game, predator, and pest species population research, both in-house and with third-party investigators. Monitors conditions and status of game and pest species populations and habitats on Company-owned conservation lands, and compiles data on same. Monitors conduct of hunters, and other public users of Company lands, to ensure compliance with Company and Departmental rules and policies as well as all applicable laws. May be assigned to serve as a hunting guide to third-party outfitters. Performs infrastructure construction, repair, and maintenance on structures, facilities, fences, wildlife traps, and irrigation systems. Operates equipment such as firearms, re-loaders, chainsaws, power pruners, augers, tillers, weed whackers, UTVs, ATVs, and other power equipment. Performs minor repairs and maintenance on firearms and other power and hand equipment. Maintains inventory of tools and supplies. Assists with management of areas under the control of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), including but not limited to, firebreak maintenance; fence establishment and maintenance; trail construction and maintenance; vegetation clearing; planting of desirable species; and elimination and control of invasive plants and animals. Applies pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, and amendments as directed. May participate in wildfire suppression and control. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Qualification/Requirements: Must be able to legally acquire, possess, and use firearms. Must be proficient in the use and maintenance of firearms and archery equipment. Must have a strong safety ethic. Must have a working knowledge of the operation, repair, and maintenance of irrigation systems and hand and power tools. Must be able to drive 4-wheel drive, ATV, and UTV vehicles on off-road conditions. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office. Must be able to effectively, efficiently, and safely execute instructions and direction. Must be able to identify key plant and animal species in the field – native and invasive. Must have demonstrated knowledge of Hawaiian native flora, fauna, resource issues, and related field methods. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, a professional appearance and demeanor, and the ability to interact with staff, clients, and community members productively. Must have an ability to work effectively and safely in a team environment. Must be willing to work in remote field conditions and in inclement weather. Must be available to participate in key emergency management roles for Pulama Lanai. Must be willing to fly in and work around helicopters. Must pass a criminal background check to indicate ability to acquire, possess, and use firearms. Must be able to participate in Company-required trainings. Required Work Cards/Certifications: Valid Hawaii Driver’s License and successful review of Motor Vehicle Record. Current State of Hawaii Hunting License. Must be able to obtain Wilderness First Aid Certification. Must be able to obtain Basic Wildland Firefighter Certification. Must be able to obtain State of Hawaii Guide License. Must be able to obtain TB Clearance. Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is required to stand or sit for long periods of time. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, and color vision. The employee is required to operate objects, tools, or controls. Employee must have the ability to hear normal conversation without the use of amplification or enhancement devices. Standing, moving, and carrying up to 50 pounds over uneven terrain in inclement weather. Ability to hike over uneven terrain for 3-5 miles.     "InternalResponsibilitiesStr": "<p><strong><u>Essential Duties</u></strong></p>\n<div>\n <ul>\n  <li>Conducts game and non-game control activities; including hunting, trapping, and other methods per standard procedures.</li>\n  <li>Processes harvested axis deer under USDA inspection for commercial and non-commercial purposes.</li>\n  <li>Issues permits and other management materials, and collects permit fees for public hunting.</li>\n  <li>Compiles, enters, and maintains data pertaining to control, management, and public hunting activities.</li>\n  <li>Coordinates game, predator, and pest species population research, both in-house and with third-party investigators.</li>\n  <li>Monitors conditions and status of game and pest species populations and habitats on Company-owned conservation lands, and compiles data on same.</li>\n  <li>Monitors conduct of hunters, and other public users of Company lands, to ensure compliance with Company and Departmental rules and policies as well as all applicable laws.</li>\n  <li>May be assigned to serve as a hunting guide to third-party outfitters.</li>\n  <li>Performs infrastructure construction, repair, and maintenance on structures, facilities, fences, wildlife traps, and irrigation systems.</li>\n  <li>Operates equipment such as firearms, re-loaders, chainsaws, power pruners, augers, tillers, weed whackers, UTVs, ATVs, and other power equipment.</li>\n  <li>Performs minor repairs and maintenance on firearms and other power and hand equipment.</li>\n  <li>Maintains inventory of tools and supplies.</li>\n  <li>Assists with management of areas under the control of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), including but not limited to, firebreak maintenance; fence establishment and maintenance; trail construction and maintenance; vegetation clearing; planting of desirable species; and elimination and control of invasive plants and animals.</li>\n  <li>Applies pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, and amendments as directed.</li>\n  <li>May participate in wildfire suppression and control.</li>\n  <li>Performs other duties as assigned.</li>\n </ul>\n</div>",
