Overview The Princeton University Art Museum welcomes applications for the role of Project Registrar, who may assist the Collections and Exhibitions registrars in all stages of projects, including but not limited to condition reporting, drafting accession-related paperwork, generating loan-related paperwork and correspondence, scheduling transits, and maintaining digital and hardcopy records. The work schedule for this position is flexible; based on the needs of the department, some work could be remote. This position is temporary. About the Museum: With a collecting history that dates back to 1755, the Princeton University Art Museum is one of the leading university art museums in the country, featuring collections that have grown to include over 117,000 works of art, ranging from ancient to contemporary pieces and spanning the globe. Committed to advancing Princeton’s teaching and research missions, the Art Museum also serves as a gateway to the University for visitors from around the world. The bold and welcoming new Princeton University Art Museum is open daily at the heart of Princeton’s campus. Admission is free to all. The Museum also operates Art@Bainbridge, a gallery project at 158 Nassau Street; two Museum Stores; and Mosaic restaurant. Responsibilities Physical examination of permanent collection objects and incoming loans for purposes of maintaining condition records. Creation of object condition reports, including digital photography when appropriate, in accordance with museum best practices. Initiating documentation for accessions, loans, and other internal purposes. Maintenance of records in the TMS database, including location changes. Responsible for directing domestic and foreign shippers to pack and ship artwork to PUAM specifications. Maintain discretion in dealing with confidential information. Qualifications Essential Requirements: A minimum of two to three years of experience working as a registrar for museums or galleries, or other cultural institutions. Familiarity with a wide variety of fine art media and the associated terminology. Experience creating museum condition reports according to the current industry’s best practices. Demonstrated experience managing art databases, including cataloging objects. Knowledge of museum best practices for handling and caring for works of art. The finalist will be required to successfully complete a background check. Preferred Qualifications: BA in Art History, Museum Studies, or Studio Arts preferred Be advised that you will be contacted only if there is further interest in your application.
