Summer Assistant Group Leader at PS130 University Settlement partners with 40,000 New Yorkers on the Lower East Side and in Brooklyn every year to build on their strengths as they achieve healthy, stable, and remarkable lives. For 135 years, we’ve collaborated with our communities to pioneer highly effective programs that fight poverty and systemic inequality. Established in 1886 as the first Settlement House in the United States, we bring the values of that movement into the 21st century by meeting New Yorkers where they live, listening to their perspectives, recognizing their excellence, understanding them as complete individuals, and creating space for them to organize. Joining together with our neighbors to advocate for justice and equality, we help build community strength. We work with New Yorkers of all ages. We infuse a commitment to civic engagement, equity, and communal action into each of our programs, which include early childhood education, mental health and wellness, benefits assistance and eviction prevention, adult literacy and education, healthy aging, community, and recreation centers, performing and visual arts, and youth development. Responsibilities: Assist Group Leaders in creating and implementing engaging activities for up to 20 youth, ensuring safety and comfort of students throughout program Support Group Leaders in designing and implementing lesson plans for multidisciplinary activities using knowledge of positive youth development and incorporating student feedback throughout the summer Serve as a positive role model for youth and uphold professional behavior at all times Work constructively with co-counselor and other colleagues; communicate regularly with supervisory staff Maintain responsibility for designated program supplies and proper use of all facilities, including classrooms Assist the Group Leaders with completing all necessary documentation and administrative tasks Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor(s) Qualifications: HS Diploma or HSE preferred, or 1 year of experience working with children less than 13 years of age Must be at least 16 years of age with up to date working papers Ability to commit for the entire season Highly energetic, dynamic, and positive Work Schedule: Seasonal Summer, Monday - Friday with shift options from 8:00am - 4:00pm or 10:00am - 6:00pm, 35 hours per week We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive community. We infuse a commitment to civic engagement, equity, and communal action into each of our programs, which include early childhood education, mental health and wellness, benefits assistance and eviction prevention, adult literacy and education, healthy aging, community, and recreation centers, performing and visual arts, and youth development.&nbsp;&nbsp;\\r\\n\\r\\n&nbsp;\\r\\n\\r\\nResponsibilities:&nbsp;&nbsp;\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tAssist Group Leaders in creating and implementing engaging activities for up to 20 youth, ensuring safety and comfort of students throughout program&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tSupport Group Leaders in designing and implementing lesson plans for multidisciplinary activities using knowledge of positive youth development and incorporating student feedback throughout the summer&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tServe as a positive role model for youth and uphold professional behavior at all times&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tWork constructively with co-counselor and other colleagues; communicate regularly with supervisory staff&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tMaintain responsibility for designated program supplies and proper use of all facilities, including classrooms&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tAssist the Group Leaders with completing all necessary documentation and administrative tasks&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tOther duties as assigned by the Supervisor(s)&nbsp;&nbsp;\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n&nbsp;\\r\\n\\r\\nQualifications:&nbsp;&nbsp;\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tHS Diploma or HSE preferred, or 1 year of experience working with children less than 13 years of age&nbsp;\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tMust be at least 16 years of age with up to date working papers&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tAbility to commit for the entire season&nbsp;&nbsp;\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tHighly energetic, dynamic, and positive&nbsp;\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n&nbsp;\\r\\n\\r\\nWork Schedule: Seasonal Summer, Monday - Friday with shift options from 8:00am - 4:00pm or 10:00am - 6:00pm, 35 hours per week&nbsp;\\r\\n\\r\\nWe are committed to building a diverse and inclusive community.
