Description Seaspan’s Innovation team is actively developing and adopting technologies for digital twins, green technologies, and advanced manufacturing in support of use-cases for future vessels, engineering services, and in-service support. Our innovation program includes current and planned projects seeking scalable solutions that integrate emerging technologies such as real-time sensors, 3D spatial information, additive manufacturing, robotics, and visualization technologies to improve Seaspan’s shipbuilding and refit business. The Technology Manager, Innovation facilitates the adoption and integration of multiple and varied technologies relevant for vessel design and build through execution of high-impact technology transfer initiatives for Innovation activities in 3D model sustainment, additive manufacturing, reality capture, and interactive visualization systems. You will work with Innovation and Shipyard teams to understand pain-points, select and apply technologies, navigate or adapt processes, and transfer and build new capabilities using software tools, sensors, and practices. The candidate is responsible for team and stakeholder management, coordinating technical solution development, defining and supervising assigned work and associated budgets to achieve successful project outcomes, managing technical risks, and developing Innovation’s strategic technology areas. Candidates must have demonstratable experience with introducing new technologies and associated processes in large and complex organizations with sound decision making for managing across competing demands with short-timelines and high-level requirements definition. A results-oriented and creative problem-solver, the candidate has a passion for creating positive team relationships, pushing forward new ideas, creating positive team relationships that foster entrepreneurial thinking, and an affinity for mutual-objective collaborations that lead to innovative, fit-for-purpose solutions that promote user adoption and business-strategic outcomes. This senior-level role formally reports to the Senior Manager, Innovation and will collaborate with and be responsible for several initiatives underway within the multi-disciplinary Innovation team. Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement. What you'll do Coordinate and lead execution of short to medium-term technology adoption projects and related deliverables. Work with cross-disciplinary team, shipyard departments, and suppliers, in capturing and delivering project scope and outcomes, resolving outstanding issues and meeting project and business objectives Establish, communicate and transfer practical approaches and best practices between Innovation and Shipyard teams to test and evaluate new technical solutions that support shipyard use and generation of 3D spatial data, visualization systems, additive manufacturing, and reality capture. Engage and interface with appropriate Engineering and Shipyard teams to support selected technical solutions and foster associated utilization. Work with stakeholders to define, develop, test and transfer new methods and tools that support and enhance shipyard decision making using 3D data, digital information, and visualization systems. Explore, evaluate, and work with internal and external partners providing 3D asset scanning, additive manufacturing, and other suppliers or services. Collaborate with Seaspan Innovation stakeholders including business development, production teams, ship operators, Engineering, ILS and ISS teams to develop methods and identify new or adjacent technologies, use-cases and pilot studies. Application of expertise to other Innovation activities is encouraged based on the skillset and interest of the applicant. What you'll bring A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Sciences, or Applied Sciences with technical team leadership and management experience. Certified project management qualifications is highly desirable. 6-10 years of project management or senior technical leadership experience in research and development or innovation oriented engineering in marine, manufacturing, or digital industries, with demonstrated increased levels of responsibility and accountability. Demonstrated experience providing technical team management and successfully executing multi-disciplinary projects from initiation to sell-off. Demonstrated experience defining, planning, and securing new work, including bids or proposals. Demonstrated experience with technical and business leadership in a fast paced, diverse environment with rapid change and competing priorities. Previous experience in shipbuilding or manufacturing industry and/or Government of Canada innovation programs is preferred. As a self-starter and team player, fosters a respectful, team-oriented workplace where employees work safely and productively together at multiple levels within the organization. Demonstrated competencies in collaboration and leadership skills leading to new organizational capabilities and technology adoption in one or more technology areas: 3D spatial data, visualization systems, additive manufacturing, and manufacturing automation or robotics Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills that support business-oriented solution development and contribute to Seaspan’s Innovation strategy. Demonstrated experience managing technical teams, stakeholders and organizational leaders with the ability to prioritize and adapt tasks to deliver meaningful outcomes. Ability to exercise sound judgment and decision-making skills in a manner consistent with the essential job functions. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.&nbsp;</strong><br>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>What you'll do</strong></p><ul><li>Coordinate and lead execution of short to medium-term technology adoption projects and related deliverables.&nbsp;</li><li>Work with cross-disciplinary team, shipyard departments, and suppliers, in capturing and delivering project scope and outcomes, resolving outstanding issues and meeting project and business objectives</li><li>Establish, communicate and transfer practical approaches and best practices between Innovation and Shipyard teams to test and evaluate new technical solutions that support shipyard use and generation of 3D spatial data, visualization systems, additive manufacturing, and reality capture.</li><li>&nbsp;Engage and interface with appropriate Engineering and Shipyard teams to support selected technical solutions and foster associated utilization.</li><li>Work with stakeholders to define, develop, test and transfer new methods and tools that support and enhance shipyard decision making using 3D data, digital information, and visualization systems.</li><li>Explore, evaluate, and work with internal and external partners providing 3D asset scanning, additive manufacturing, and other suppliers or services.</li><li>Collaborate with Seaspan Innovation stakeholders including business development, production teams, ship operators, Engineering, ILS and ISS teams to develop methods and identify new or adjacent technologies, use-cases and pilot studies.</li><li>Application of expertise to other Innovation activities is encouraged based on the skillset and interest of the applicant.</li></ul><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>What you'll bring</strong>&nbsp;</p><ul><li>A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Sciences, or Applied Sciences with technical team leadership and management experience.</li><li>&nbsp;Certified project management qualifications is highly desirable.</li><li>&nbsp;6-10 years of project management or senior technical leadership experience in research and development or innovation oriented engineering in marine, manufacturing, or digital industries, with demonstrated increased levels of responsibility and accountability.</li><li>Demonstrated experience providing technical team management and successfully executing multi-disciplinary projects from initiation to sell-off.</li><li>Demonstrated experience defining, planning, and securing new work, including bids or proposals.</li><li>Demonstrated experience with technical and business leadership in a fast paced, diverse environment with rapid change and competing priorities.</li><li>Previous experience in shipbuilding or manufacturing industry and/or Government of Canada innovation programs is preferred.</li><li>As a self-starter and team player, fosters a respectful, team-oriented workplace where employees work safely and productively together at multiple levels within the organization.</li><li>Demonstrated competencies in collaboration and leadership skills leading to new organizational capabilities and technology adoption in one or more technology areas: 3D spatial data, visualization systems, additive manufacturing, and manufacturing automation or robotics</li><li>Excellent oral and written communication skills.</li><li>Strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills that support business-oriented solution development and contribute to Seaspan’s Innovation strategy.</li><li>Demonstrated experience managing technical teams, stakeholders and organizational leaders with the ability to prioritize and adapt tasks to deliver meaningful outcomes.</li><li>Ability to exercise sound judgment and decision-making skills in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.</li><li>Innate curiosity and enthusiasm for exploring and developing new technologies and processes.</li></ul><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Why you’ll love working here</strong></p><ul><li>This is a full-time, permanent position.
