The School of Arts, Sciences & Education at Walsh University is accepting applications for adjunct faculty to teach the following undergraduate English courses in composition:
ENG 100 - Writing Workshop
Intensive work in writing paragraphs and short essays to remedy basic errors in grammar, usage, and syntax. Students should expect to spend 8 to 10 hours per semester in The Writing Center for individualized study and tutorial assistance. Computer lab used to develop writing skills.
ENG 101 - Exploration of Self
A study of the writing process with the personal essay as its goal. Students compose informal and autobiographical essays after studying model works representing various cultures and writings.
ENG 102 - Reading/Writing Connections
An introduction to research emphasizing those skills essential to production of the formal research paper. Students learn the principles of argumentation and close textual analysis, including the ability to summarize, paraphrase, annotate, document, and critically interpret sources. Students also study the nature of academic argument and oral presentation.
Most sections are offered in an on-campus academic classroom although some online sections may be offered. Each section meets for eight weeks, and there are two eight-week terms per semester. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold one office hour each week for each section they teach.
Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Must understand and support the Mission, Vision and Code of Ethical Conduct of Walsh University, as a Catholic higher education university as expressed in Ex Corde Ecclesiae, and possess the following:
Candidates should possess a minimum of a master's degree in English, Composition/Rhetoric, MFA in Creative Writing, or master's degree in a related field with a minimum of 30 graduate credit hours in the subject to be taught and preferably have experience teaching at the undergraduate level. Candidates should also be able to demonstrate an ability to teach the process of college writing and researching, as well as critical thinking and oral communication skills. Professional demeanor and ability to interact with charity towards students, staff and faculty. Positive attitude a must.
