    "ExternalDescriptionStr": "<p>Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.</p><p>The Intern, Innovation will play a key role within Seaspan’s forward-looking Innovation team, contributing to the development and application of cutting-edge technologies such as digital twins, green solutions, and autonomous systems. Working alongside technical experts and business leaders, the intern will support projects focused on robotics, automation, and advanced manufacturing, helping to evaluate and implement scalable solutions that enhance shipbuilding and refit operations. This role offers hands-on experience in research, testing, and technology demonstration, while providing opportunities to collaborate cross-functionally, lead initiatives, and communicate project outcomes that drive innovation across the organization.</p><p><strong>Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 10 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.</strong></p><p>What you’ll do</p><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\"><li>The successful applicant for this position will support technical and non-technical work with internal stakeholders and provide day-to-day support to managers and engineers while performing specific activities, including:</li><li>Working with core Innovation team members and users to define requirements, select technologies and develop test cases.</li><li>Full ownership and initiative in the development and demonstration of selected technologies and applications (e.g. as a case study or pilot study)</li><li>Perform assigned work including, as appropriate: literature and online research, coding, testing, and evaluations of your project’s technologies and application.</li><li>Coordinate and schedule activities to procure and manage Innovation technology assets</li><li>Capture and communicate the solution, progress and outcomes using demonstrations, presentations, and reports</li><li>Lead and facilitate meetings, updates, and other demonstration activities with team members and senior staff.</li><li>Engaging with the wider team, stakeholders and other departments to manage progress and align the project’s vision.</li></ul><p>&nbsp;</p><p>What you’ll bring</p><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\"><li>Enrolled in a 3rd or 4th year engineering or science degree program.&nbsp;</li><li>A strong curiosity about marine and vessel applications for advanced manufacturing including additive manufacturing, robotics and autonomous physical or digital systems, and Industry 4.0 manufacturing (previous experience in shipbuilding is not required)</li><li>Passion and surface level knowledge on some of the following technologies:</li><li>Robotic systems in manufacturing applications</li><li>CAD design and Lidar scanning systems</li><li>Additive Manufacturing</li><li>Experience in conducting technical investigations with strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal and organizational skills including technical report writing.</li><li>Ability to work independently with minimal direction and manage their time optimally</li><li>Demonstrated troubleshooting skills and using collaboration and coordination to drive successful project outcomes</li><li>Demonstrated technical knowledge and engineering skills through exposure to industry experience, class projects or co-op terms.</li><li>Excellent proficiencies using Microsoft Excel/Word/PowerPoint and other applications</li></ul><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Why you'll love working here</p><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\"><li>A supportive learning environment, great team culture and hands-on experience and training.</li><li>Opportunity to grow your career and connect with like-minded students.&nbsp;</li><li>To assist those that are using transit, we operate a complimentary shuttle bus Monday through Friday with various pick up and drop off points around North Vancouver.&nbsp;</li></ul><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $28.00/hour.</strong><br>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Start Date of Internship: Tuesday, September 8th, 2026. &nbsp;</strong><br><strong>End Date of Internship: Friday, April 30th, 2027 (8 Months).</strong><br>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Please submit your Resume, Cover Letter and Academic Transcript as one PDF document.&nbsp;</strong><br>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Application Closing Date: Sunday, June 21st, 2026, at 11:59pm PDT.&nbsp;</strong><br>&nbsp;</p><p><i>Please note: if we receive a large volume of applications, we may close this posting ahead of the closing date, therefore, we recommend applying early.
