Description

Overview Princeton University Library is seeking a Library Collections Specialist V to handle a variety of responsibilities related to public services, collection assistance, technical support, site monitoring, and informational support. The position will be the primary point-of-contact during evenings and weekends in the Lewis Science Library and Engineering Library, thereby strengthening operations when no other staff members are around. The position is expected to be both an independent contributor with a high level of accountability, because of the evening and weekend hours, as well as a strong team player. The position will also need to be comfortable working in “dotted-line relationships,” reporting to indirect supervisors for specific work areas in addition to the formal supervisor. This position is expected to work on the following five-day schedule (including a one-hour unpaid lunch break) during the Fall and Spring Terms: Sunday: 10am to 6:15pm; Monday to Thursday: 1pm to 9:15pm. During the Summer period (mid-May to late August) and during Recess weeks, the Lewis Science and Engineering Libraries may be closed on weekends. During these periods, the position is expected to have work hours from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:15pm. Responsibilities Staff the circulation desk at agreed-upon shifts and support student employees, especially during evening and weekend hours. Assist patrons in understanding the collections, services, and spaces in the Lewis Science Library and Engineering Library. Support circulation in the Makerspace, which is located in the Lewis Science Library. Coordinate and collaborate with multiple stakeholders across the Lewis Science and Engineering Libraries, such as the library coordinator, Makerspace supervisor, and student supervisors. Contribute to library process documentation and library signage. Provide support for digitization and cataloging projects such as the Engineering Library technical reports and Finding Aids. Provide technical and logistical support for events in the Lewis Science Library and Engineering Library, especially in the evening hours. Provide technical support for Makerspace equipment (such as 3D printers) and backup technical support for events in the Visualization Lab. Monitor or carry out closing checks in the Lewis Science Library and Engineering Library at library closing time. Carry out regular checks of library spaces and report issues. Support work on exhibits in the library such as the Material Samples Collection. Qualifications Essential Qualifications High school diploma. Three to five years of library or equivalent experience that demonstrates the ability to provide excellent in-person patron or customer service, provide technical or logistical support, and collaborate with multiple stakeholders. Experience using an enterprise application such as an Integrated Library System. Excellent project management skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail. Experience using productivity and collaboration software such as Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and Slack. Ability to communicate effectively in English with people across the academic environment in written and oral form. Basic knowledge of computer hardware, printers, scanners, and audio/video equipment. Able to lift or carry items weighing up to 10 pounds occasionally; pull or push carts weighing up to 50 pounds; stand or walk 1 to 2 hours per day; and bend, squat, kneel, reach overhead, lift overhead, and climb stairs or step stools occasionally. Ability to work productively on a laptop, including occasional standing positions. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree. Research services and library public services orientation. Working knowledge of Alma or other Integrated Library System (ILS). Experience designing exhibits and creating information or promotional posters. Experience with designing, planning, and staffing events. Experience with 3D printers, scanning, and digitization. Experience working evening and weekend shifts. Experience supervising or working alongside university students.
