    "ExternalDescriptionStr": "<p><strong><u>Job Summary</u></strong></p><p>The Department of Medical Education at the Quillen College of Medicine, East Tennessee State University, invites applications for an open-rank faculty position (Assistant, Associate, or Professor) to serve in pre-clinical teaching endeavors with an option for clinical services and dual appointment within the Department of Pathology. We seek candidates with broad training in pathology with the interest in teaching both pathology and histology content. The candidate will be responsible for the management of these discipline threads across Quillen’s systems-based curriculum. Preference will be given to those candidates with expertise in interactive pedagogies, knowledge of medical school accreditation standards, and educational scholarship. With the opportunity to contribute to clinical practice, there is the possibility for fostering an integrative approach to medical education. Our very collegial environment also extends to both pre-clinical and clinical departments and other colleges at ETSU.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The successful candidate will provide leadership in the Doctoring Skills curriculum for first-and-second year medical students, focusing on the development of advanced interviewing, physical examination, clinical reasoning, and professional identity formation.&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The university is a regional state-supported institution serving ~15,000 students.&nbsp; Quillen College of Medicine consistently ranks among the top Schools nationwide for rural medicine and primary care education.&nbsp; Johnson City is located at the base of the scenic Appalachian Mountains and provides a friendly, small-town atmosphere with a low cost of living, excellent public and private schools, clean mountain air, light traffic and southern hospitality.</p><p style=\"margin-left:1.5in;\">&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong><u>Responsibilities Include:</u></strong></p><ul><li>Developing course objectives linked to USMLE content and QCOM institutional educational objectives where histology and pathology are relevant.</li><li>Planning, developing, and providing active-learning student materials.</li><li>Planning, developing, and providing active-learning pedagogical modalities within the pre-clinical curriculum.</li><li>Writing and modifying quality NBME-style questions with faculty and staff support to be used in both the classroom and assessment settings, ensuring fair and accurate evaluation of student learning.</li><li>Collaborating with faculty across basic and clinical sciences to ensure content integration.</li><li>Acting as a team member to ensure courses run smoothly.</li><li>Work as a valued team member in implementing course continuous quality improvement.</li><li>Mentoring and supporting medical students in their professional and clinical development.&nbsp;</li><li>Participating in departmental and institutional service, faculty development, and curriculum committees.&nbsp;</li><li>Contributing to academic scholarship through either educational or basic/clinical sciences-based research.</li></ul><p>&nbsp;</p><ul><li><strong><u>Clinical Responsibilities (optional)</u></strong></li><li>Engage in part-time clinical duties within the Department of Pathology, including diagnostic work and case review.</li><li>Provide expertise in histopathology and contribute to departmental initiatives.&nbsp;</li></ul><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong><u>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</u></strong></p><ul><li>Exceptional interpersonal skills&nbsp;</li><li>Established record of, or strong potential for, effective pathology and histology teaching</li><li>Knowledge of active and problem-based learning experiences&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to effectively engage and motivate students&nbsp;</li><li>Possess a commitment to professional excellence, innovation in medical education, and creation of a safe and excellent learning environment</li><li>Excellent organizational skills and keen attention to detail</li><li>Ability to work collaboratively with administration and faculty&nbsp;</li></ul><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong><u>Required Qualifications</u></strong></p><p style=\"margin-left:0.5in;\">Applicants must have:</p><ul><li>Terminal degree (MD, DO, PhD, or MD/PhD)</li><li>Documented accomplishments as a clinician and educator with at least 3-5 years of relevant experience.&nbsp;</li><li>If clinical duties are requested, board certification in general pathology (Anatomic and/or Clinical) or specific subspecialties, including forensics.</li><li>For clinical duties, the Tennessee State Licensure&nbsp;</li></ul><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong><u>Preferred Qualifications&nbsp;</u></strong></p><ul><li>Previous histology and pathology teaching experience at a medical or professional school level.</li><li>Experience in innovative educational practices.</li><li>Knowledge of undergraduate medical school curricular/accreditation standards.</li><li>Experience with educational and/or basic and clinical science scholarship</li></ul><p>&nbsp;</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\"><strong><u>Compensation &amp;
