The Director of Mortgage Banking oversees the strategic direction, growth, and profitability of the bank’s Mortgage lending portfolio, along with oversight of credit underwriting process / procedures. This role focuses on driving sales growth, market penetration, and cross-selling while ensuring credit quality, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance. It requires strategic vision, sales leadership, and operational oversight to maximize our community and customer relationships. This position is in-office at our Corporate Headquarters in Oak Creek, WI. Compensation: $150,000+ annually depending on experience. Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Sales Growth: Develop and execute strategic business goals for the mortgage division to increase market share and profitability. Drive Mortgage Loan Officer performance, create effective sales strategies, and nurture relationships with realtors, builders, and clients. Partner with FP&A to establish production targets by product lines and different channels (e.g. branches, digital platforms, call center). Build a sales culture focused on proactive calling, pipeline management, and cross-sell opportunities. Monitor competitor pricing, promotions, and market trends to maintain competitive positioning. Product & Portfolio Management Own the mortgage lending product suite, including pricing strategies, fee structures, and promotions. Collaborate with Marketing, Finance, and Product Strategy on bundled offerings and campaigns. Monitor loan portfolio performance, profitability, and concentration to balance growth with risk. Drive product innovation to meet customer needs and increase market share. Channel Development & Operations Expand digital lending capabilities, including online applications, pre-approvals, and workflow management. Oversee end-to-end mortgage / consumer underwriting & approval process, closing, and servicing, to maintain high quality and efficiency. Must possess knowledge and understanding of operations process as well. Select and manage third-party vendors and investors, including contract negotiations. Team Development Recruit, train, and mentor staff to build a high-performing team, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence. Foster a performance-driven culture with clear accountability for goals. Provide ongoing training in consultative selling, financial needs assessment, and compliance. Compliance & Risk Uphold strict adherence to federal and state banking laws, regulations (including TRID, RESPA, HMDA), and investor guidelines. Maintain and update lending policies and procedures. Ensure mortgage and consumer loans comply with bank underwriting policies, risk management, and regulatory guidelines. Analyze portfolio performance and implement risk mitigation strategies. Collaboration & Community Engagement Partner across Treasury Management, Sales Teams, and Branch Staff to maximize household and business opportunities. Leverage customer insights with Data & Analytics to drive targeted marketing and product campaigns. Represent the bank at community events and outreach programs. Provide financial education and guidance on credit and lending options. Build referral networks with local businesses and community partners. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required. 10+ years in financial services management with emphasis on mortgage lending. Proven track record managing teams, building referral networks, and portfolio growth. Excellent communication, relationship-building, and executive presence. Proven leadership in mortgage lending with a strong sales orientation. Ability to design and execute growth strategies while maintaining mortgage regulations.
