Description
LAYC’s Summer Food & Nutrition program works with 16 youth from 14-18 years old for six weeks. Youth learn about cooking, gardening nutrition, and helping to run LAYC’s community food pantry; while honing their social emotional skills. The program strives to spark learning and community engagement through inquiry and project-based learning.
There are weekly field trips related to their program to inspire and spark new conversations among our young people. At the end of the program, youth prepare a capstone project to share the culmination of the work developed throughout the summer. We are looking for dynamic, engaging individuals to support our summer program from late June to early August.
Food & Nutrition Track Goals:
To develop young people’s abilities in culinary arts and their understanding of how food is a vital resource and how it impacts them and their community. Youth will learn about nutrition, gardening, cooking and food safety and engage in food justice issues in DC and beyond; and meet professionals from across the food industry.
Program Dates: June 23 & 25 (Staff Orientation & Planning); June 29-August 7 (Program).
Hours: Monday - Friday from 9:30am – 3:30pm (Program Hours 10am -3pm)
