Description

The ICCT is an award-winning, independent, global, non-profit research organization that supports the effective design and implementation of policies to address the impacts of the global transportation sector on climate change and public health. Our organization achieves this by providing high quality and timely data-driven research to public officials at all levels of government - city, state, national, regional and international - as well as to civil society and the media. The ICCT offers a mission-driven and culturally diverse workplace where intelligence, flexibility, transparency, and good humor are highly valued. Join our team of talented researchers with offices in Washington D.C., San Francisco, Berlin, Beijing, and São Paulo. The ICCT is looking for an enthusiastic recent graduate or early career professional to join the organization’s global Supply Chain Center team as a research fellow with a focus on reducing vehicle production emissions and scaling up resilient and responsible electric vehicle battery supply chains. Within the Fellowship, you will contribute to ICCT’s efforts to drive electrification by analyzing battery production and supply chains in Europe and other major vehicle markets globally. Your research will include mapping battery technology trends and cost drivers, assessing production capacities and job potential, and evaluating import dependencies and trade partnerships. This 9 to 12-month fellowship will be based in either our Berlin  or Washington D.C. office. To be successful in our environment, you must be intellectually curious, self-directed, and able to work with people from across the globe. The position is best suited to someone with inventiveness, creativity, resourcefulness, and strong time management skills. The ideal candidate will hold a graduate degree with previous research experience in environment, transportation, energy or battery technology topics, excellent writing skills, some international education, travel or work experience, and demonstrated passion for solving our most pressing global health and environmental challenges. You Will: Perform high-quality research on EV policies, supply chains and local-content rules, with a focus in Europe. Collect data, and perform quantitative analyses of datasets on the future costs and demand in batteries and minerals, production capacities, and trade flows. Author or co-author ICCT publications such as blogs, briefing papers, memos, working papers, and reports. Review and summarize technical and scientific literature and review the work of colleagues and outside consultants. Support presentations in public workshops and conferences, as well as regulatory working groups and policymaker briefings. You Have: B.A. (required), M.S., or Ph.D. (preferred), in engineering, economics, environmental sciences, or related field. Relevant work or research experience is a plus. Curiosity and basic understanding of battery technologies, material supply chains, industrial policies and global trade dynamics. Excellent quantitative, analytical, research, and organizational skills, along with strong written and verbal communication skills and strong emotional intelligence. Strong proficiency with data manipulation and analysis, using Excel, Python, R or similar tools; modelling and programming experience desired. English fluency is required, both written and spoken. Our Benefits This is a full-time (40 hours/week), temporary position for 12 months. The position may lead to regular, full-time employment depending on organizational resources and the Fellow’s performance. The position will be based in the ICCT’s Europe office in Berlin. We offer a competitive gross salary starting at $29.59/ hour, depending on education and experience. The ICCT provides an excellent benefits package including hybrid/remote work flexibilities, professional development opportunities, and other benefits. Application To apply, please submit a resume (please refrain from submitting a photograph), cover letter indicating your interest, two writing samples or relevant technical research publications primarily written by the applicant (in English), and the names and contact information of three professional or academic references (as well as any reference letters available). Please include your ideal start date. The position will remain open until filled. We are committed to equal employment opportunities, regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender, gender identity or expression, or veteran status. We take pride in being an equal-opportunity workplace.
