Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required to support community needs and special projects.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Join our team and help make Lorain County a healthier place to live, work, and play!</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES</span></p>\n<ol>\n<li>Conduct Environmental Health Program inspections (i.e., concentration in food safety, recreational water, school safety, institutions, body art, rabies, and smoking complaints)</li>\n<li>Interpret laws and regulations</li>\n<li>Investigate health hazard complaints</li>\n<li>Maintain field district responsibilities</li>\n<li>Reports to the Director/Supervisor of Environmental Health regularly regarding program work and related matters</li>\n<li>Work with public officials, civic, and professional groups to promote and improve environmental health programs</li>\n<li>Work with other internal agency divisions for program collaboration and support, where applicable</li>\n<li>Performs other related and assigned work as required</li>\n</ol>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">MAJOR WORK CHARACTERISTICS</span></p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Knowledge of</span>:  Environmental health programs; public health standards as defined by federal, state, and local regulations; the importance of agency policies, practices, and procedures; risk communication; incident command; safety practices and procedures.</p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Ability to</span>:  Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; maintain accurate records; communicate effectively in written or oral form; prepare concise and accurate reports, handle sensitive inquiries from officials and the general public, attend work on time, and dress appropriately.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</span>  Possession of a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health or a related field. Must possess a current Ohio certificate of registration as an Environmental Health Specialist-in Training or a Registered Environmental Health Specialist. Must have a valid Driver’s License. A REHS credential is a preferred qualification.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Physical Requirements and Unusual Working Conditions</span><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">: </span>Be able to lift objects of weight up to fifty (50) pounds. May encounter unsanitary working conditions; requires use of your personal vehicle for daily activities.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">COMPENSATION: </span>Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. Ohio Public Employee’s Retirement System (PERS). Paid vacation, personal day, holidays, and sick leave. Tuition reimbursement is available.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">SALARY</span><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">:</span> $26.84-$34.26/hr. (EHSIT) $30.95-$39.49/hr.
