    "description": "<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Overview</span><br></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>RiverFlow Dredging is seeking a Watchkeeping Mate with a demonstrated ability to manage assigned duties promptly and efficiently. This position will be based on the RiverFlow Spirit, a trailing suction hopper dredger that will commence operations in the Fraser River in June 2026.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Duties &amp; Responsibilities</span><br></p>\n<p>The Watchkeeping Mate’s duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:<br></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Taking charge of a navigation watch.</li>\n<li>Handling / maneuvering / navigating the vessel.</li>\n<li>Supervising the dredging operations and optimizing production and the continuity of the vessel.</li>\n<li>Verifying the vessel’s position.</li>\n<li>Entering all pertinent details into the Bridge Log, as they occur.</li>\n<li>Checking operation of all navigational aids: radar, depth sounder, GPS, radios.</li>\n<li>Monitoring depth of water when approaching land or dredging.</li>\n<li>Maintaining a good lookout for traffic or dangers.</li>\n<li>Giving sufficient traffic warning to other vessels and checking traffic conditions in confined and/or restricted areas.</li>\n<li>Being responsible for all elements of the dredging operation.</li>\n<li>Monitoring the stability characteristics of the vessel during the dredging operation.</li>\n<li>Ensuring day shapes and navigation lights are properly displayed.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Marine Medical Certificate</li>\n<li>Certificate of Proficiency inSTCWBasic Safety</li>\n<li>Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats</li>\n<li>Certificate of Competency\n<ul>\n<li>Preferred–Watchkeeping Mate</li>\n<li>Minimum–Watchkeeping Mate, Near Coastal<br></li>\n</ul>\n</li>\n<li>Certificate of Proficiency in Advance Fire Fighting</li>\n<li>Certificate of Proficiency inMarine Advanced First Aid</li>\n<li>Restricted Operator’s Certificate (Maritime Commercial) ROC-MC, minimum</li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Eligible to be added to Pacific Pilotage Authority Coastal Waiver from Compulsory Pilotage</span></li>\n<li>Eligible to work in Canada</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Working Conditions</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>12-hour days with overtime as required</li>\n<li>Unionized position with the Canadian Merchant Service Guild</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>This position is challenging, interesting and will be well suited to an individual looking to further expand their existing skill set and take part in an exciting experience within a strong and healthy work environment.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>We thank all applicants for their interest; only candidates who have been selected for an interview will be contacted.</p>",
