Description

Overview At the direction of the Medical Director, the Pediatrician provides comprehensive medical services for pediatric patients, regardless of gender within scope of training. Services include preventative care, immunizations, primary care and treatment, health education, prescribing of medications, ordering and interpreting lab testing, physical examinations, STD screenings, vision/hearing, women’s health, family planning, prenatal services, nutrition. Physician may be used in a variety of locations depending upon the need of the organization. No hospital call or rounds. The Pediatrician may be asked to provide phone on-call services, supervise Physician Assistants and Nurses, and provide training to resident physicians or physician extender students. Responsibilities Facilitates the delivery of patient care in collaboration with health professionals, health managers, and other healthcare personnel. Provides care appropriate to the age of the patients served (i.e., well-child exams and same-day sick visits). Obtains and evaluates patients’ health history and performs physical assessments of patients using techniques of observation, inspection, auscultation, palpation, and percussion Proficient in the use of instruments needed for assessments (e.g., otoscope, stethoscope, etc.) Able to differentiate between normal and abnormal findings. Performs general wound care for superficial wounds, including laceration repair, incision, drainage, and biopsies as needed. Reviews patients’ lab reports, EKG’s, x-rays, charts, and results of other tests. Recognizes and manages conditions outlined in Santa Ynez Tribal Health Clinic (SYTHC) protocol manuals. Decision making authority to independently handle patient cases, including those with multi-system medical problems. Prescribes and dispenses medications and controlled substances within the jurisdiction of the physician’s state license and DEA prescribing authority, orders and adjusts selected medications, therapies, and diagnostic procedures according to protocol. Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, family planning, and emotional problems Promotes physical and emotional health and health maintenance through direction and instruction. Identifies resources available within the community to help patients and families and provides guidance on how to utilize the resources. Maintains knowledge of programs provided such as Child Health and Disability Prevention (CHDP)/Patient Assistance Program, Medi-Cal, Healthy Families, Family Planning, Access, Care, and Treatment (Family PACT), Every Woman Counts (EWC), etc. Documents all patient visits, follow-ups, treatment plans, diagnoses, etc. into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system in an efficient, accurate, and succinct manner. Attends formal educational courses and seminars as directed or needed. Adheres to domestic violence and child, dependent, and elder abuse protocols. Maintains and adheres to confidentiality and privilege communication protocols (e.g., patient, employee, clinic, and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) as set forth by SYTHC. Adheres to of all safety policies and procedures inclusive of infection control rules and regulations, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance, and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). Upholds a work environment that promotes teamwork, partnership, recognition, mutual respect, and collaboration, while role modeling the company values, behaviors, and culture of One.Team.Chumash. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree, or equivalent degree from a foreign school equivalent to accredited schools in the U.S. Must possess unrestricted current licensure to practice medicine in the State of California as issued through the Medical Board of California. American Board eligible or certified in Pediatrics. Possession of a current valid CPR certification. Strong commitment to mission, policies, and goals of the Santa Ynez Tribal Health Clinic. English-Spanish bilingual skills are highly desirable. Proficiency with computers, including EHR systems, and Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Outlook. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret forms, grants, and documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from patients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present and communicate information to the Medical Director, Executive Director of Tribal Health Clinic, and/or Health Board as needed. Willingness to receive continuing education training (some travel required). Native American hiring preference applies. Customer Focus: Knowing the (internal and external) customer business needs and acting accordingly; anticipating customer needs, and giving high priority to customer satisfaction and customer service. Quality Orientation: Setting high standards regarding his/her work and working environment and acting accordingly; developing quality standards, continuously evaluating performance, products, and procedures; actively seeking ways to improve quality. Problem Solving: Having the ability to identify problems and issues of varying complexities and to find effective solutions with few guidelines. Written Communication : Expressing ideas and opinions clearly in properly structured, well organized, and grammatically correct reports or documents; utilizing language and terminology that is understandable for the reader.
