Required Other National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) is required. Approved certification is through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PCTB) and ExCPT Certification by the National Healthcareer Association. Required Job Overview: The Certified Inpatient Pharmacy Technician III provides advanced technical support to pharmacists in the preparation, distribution, and management of medications. This role requires a higher level of experience, responsibility, and clinical awareness. In addition to managing unit dose medication distribution, the Technician III is responsible for one or more of the following as primary job duties: 1) sterile compounding of both non-hazardous and hazardous medications (including chemotherapy), maintaining a compliant and sterile cleanroom environment, ensuring the safe handling of hazardous drugs 2) provides technical support in a non-24 hour Inpatient Pharmacy 3) manages off-site Automated Dispensing Cabinet inventory To maintain competency and expand technical skills, the Technician III rotates between unit dose operations and sterile compounding duties involving both hazardous and non-hazardous preparations. Job Responsibilities: Supports pharmacists in the preparation and distribution of medications by performing a variety of technical tasks in accordance with department protocols and regulatory standards. Demonstrates competency through regular audits, observational checklists, and performance rounding. • Medication Preparation & Distribution: accurately selects, counts, compounds (non-sterile), packages, scans, labels, fills, and delivers medications in compliance with departmental guidelines. • Non-sterile compounding: performs weighing, measuring, and mixing of ingredients using proper calculations, equipment, and technique, ensuring accuracy and safety. • Automated Dispensing Machines: proficient in signing into systems, loading, refilling, unloading, managing expirations, and resolving discrepancies in ADCs. • Stock Orders/Emergency Carts/Boxes: accurately and efficiently fills medication orders and emergency supplies in a timely manner. • Delivery: ensures timely and accurate delivery of medications via tubing, cart runs, IV runs, and STAT deliveries. Verifies correct delivery location and proper storage (e.g., refrigeration, secure storage). *Offsite ADC Management: oversees all aspects of off-site Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs), including loading, refilling, unloading, managing returns and expired medications, and maintaining appropriate par levels and min/max settings. Responsible for ADC troubleshooting, coordination with the main pharmacy, and effective communication with the Automation Technician, as assigned and appropriate. Must work at least 70% of shifts in these positions to qualify for the Technician III level, *Completes other assigned tasks as directed to support patient care and department/organization success Responsible for inventory control through proper removal of medications from automation, stock rotation, removal of expired medications, reordering/stocking of medications/supplies when stock is low, and packaging/assembling medications for future dispensing. Ensures safe storage of medications. *Verifies quantity on hand (QOH) and adjusts inventory records as necessary; promptly reports discrepancies to the on-site buyer *When inventory counts are incorrect, updates Omnicell with the correct quantity and earliest expiration date, and escalates significant discrepancies to the buyer *Notifies the buyer of increased usage trends in medications or supplies *Identifies medications frequently expiring and recommends PAR level adjustments to the buyer for evaluation *Ensures proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and follows safety protocols when handling hazardous medications *Maintains accurate inventory of controlled substances (CII–CV), including documentation and reconciliation of records. Immediately reports unresolved controlled substance discrepancies to a supervisor *Non-24 hour Inpatient Pharmacy: takes on additional job duties, including but not limited to conducting regular inventory checks to identify and remove expired, damaged, or recalled medications, processes recalls through ONERECALL, ordering and restocking medications and supplies to maintain optimal inventory levels while ensuring no critical stock outs of essential medications, communicate with reverse distributor to process medication returns, works with buyer on drug shortages, manages EMS bag inventory. The non-24 hour inpatient pharmacy must be the primary work location to qualify for the Technician III level Responsible for compounding of sterile products * Accurately and efficiently prepares both hazardous and non-hazardous compounded sterile products (CSP) using aseptic technique * Calculates and verifies compounding instructions for each patient, following master formulation records * Utilizes EPIC dispense prep, hardware, and/or software workflows to scan, photograph, and prepare sterile products * Follows all pharmacy department policies and procedures for safe handling, preparation, and disposal of hazardous drugs *Completes other assigned tasks as directed to support patient care and department/organization success Responsible for maintaining a sterile and compliant environment inside of the hoods, cleanroom, and anteroom * Follows policies and procedures for garbing PPE, hand hygiene, and daily/weekly/monthly cleaning * Documents daily/weekly/monthly cleaning after completing each task. Escalates to Pharmacy Leadership and Compounding Quality Compliance Team when tasks cannot be completed or are missed. * Continuously monitors room and hood pressures, room temperature, and refrigerator temperature. Immediately reports out of range temperatures and pressures to Pharmacy Leadership and Compounding Quality Compliance Team. * Completes and documents remedial room and hood cleanings under the direction of Pharmacy Leadership and/or Compounding Quality Compliance Team. *Compliance will be tracked via completion of logs and routine environmental sampling (air and surface). Demonstrates competency in non-hazardous and hazardous sterile compounding through routine competencies (written and observational), periodic audits, and rounding visits. Observational checklists, growth media plates and media-filled bags/vials will be used to validate practices. Required</p><p><strong>Job Overview:</strong></p><p>The Certified Inpatient Pharmacy Technician III provides advanced technical support to pharmacists in the preparation, distribution, and management of medications. This role requires a higher level of experience, responsibility, and clinical awareness. In addition to managing unit dose medication distribution, the Technician III is responsible for one or more of the following as primary job duties: 1) sterile compounding of both non-hazardous and hazardous medications (including chemotherapy), maintaining a compliant and sterile cleanroom environment, ensuring the safe handling of hazardous drugs 2) provides technical support in a non-24 hour Inpatient Pharmacy 3) manages off-site Automated Dispensing Cabinet inventory To maintain competency and expand technical skills, the Technician III rotates between unit dose operations and sterile compounding duties involving both hazardous and non-hazardous preparations.<br><br>Job Responsibilities:<br><br>Supports pharmacists in the preparation and distribution of medications by performing a variety of technical tasks in accordance with department protocols and regulatory standards. Demonstrates competency through regular audits, observational checklists, and performance rounding. • Medication Preparation &amp; Distribution: accurately selects, counts, compounds (non-sterile), packages, scans, labels, fills, and delivers medications in compliance with departmental guidelines. • Non-sterile compounding: performs weighing, measuring, and mixing of ingredients using proper calculations, equipment, and technique, ensuring accuracy and safety. • Automated Dispensing Machines: proficient in signing into systems, loading, refilling, unloading, managing expirations, and resolving discrepancies in ADCs. • Stock Orders/Emergency Carts/Boxes: accurately and efficiently fills medication orders and emergency supplies in a timely manner. • Delivery: ensures timely and accurate delivery of medications via tubing, cart runs, IV runs, and STAT deliveries. Verifies correct delivery location and proper storage (e.g., refrigeration, secure storage). *Offsite ADC Management: oversees all aspects of off-site Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs), including loading, refilling, unloading, managing returns and expired medications, and maintaining appropriate par levels and min/max settings. Responsible for ADC troubleshooting, coordination with the main pharmacy, and effective communication with the Automation Technician, as assigned and appropriate. Must work at least 70% of shifts in these positions to qualify for the Technician III level, *Completes other assigned tasks as directed to support patient care and department/organization success&nbsp;</p><p><br>Responsible for inventory control through proper removal of medications from automation, stock rotation, removal of expired medications, reordering/stocking of medications/supplies when stock is low, and packaging/assembling medications for future dispensing. Ensures safe storage of medications. *Verifies quantity on hand (QOH) and adjusts inventory records as necessary; promptly reports discrepancies to the on-site buyer *When inventory counts are incorrect, updates Omnicell with the correct quantity and earliest expiration date, and escalates significant discrepancies to the buyer *Notifies the buyer of increased usage trends in medications or supplies *Identifies medications frequently expiring and recommends PAR level adjustments to the buyer for evaluation *Ensures proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and follows safety protocols when handling hazardous medications *Maintains accurate inventory of controlled substances (CII–CV), including documentation and reconciliation of records. Immediately reports unresolved controlled substance discrepancies to a supervisor *Non-24 hour Inpatient Pharmacy: takes on additional job duties, including but not limited to conducting regular inventory checks to identify and remove expired, damaged, or recalled medications, processes recalls through ONERECALL, ordering and restocking medications and supplies to maintain optimal inventory levels while ensuring no critical stock outs of essential medications, communicate with reverse distributor to process medication returns, works with buyer on drug shortages, manages EMS bag inventory. The non-24 hour inpatient pharmacy must be the primary work location to qualify for the Technician III level</p><p><br>Responsible for compounding of sterile products * Accurately and efficiently prepares both hazardous and non-hazardous compounded sterile products (CSP) using aseptic technique * Calculates and verifies compounding instructions for each patient, following master formulation records * Utilizes EPIC dispense prep, hardware, and/or software workflows to scan, photograph, and prepare sterile products * Follows all pharmacy department policies and procedures for safe handling, preparation, and disposal of hazardous drugs *Completes other assigned tasks as directed to support patient care and department/organization success&nbsp;<br>Responsible for maintaining a sterile and compliant environment inside of the hoods, cleanroom, and anteroom * Follows policies and procedures for garbing PPE, hand hygiene, and daily/weekly/monthly cleaning * Documents daily/weekly/monthly cleaning after completing each task. Escalates to Pharmacy Leadership and Compounding Quality Compliance Team when tasks cannot be completed or are missed. * Continuously monitors room and hood pressures, room temperature, and refrigerator temperature. Immediately reports out of range temperatures and pressures to Pharmacy Leadership and Compounding Quality Compliance Team. * Completes and documents remedial room and hood cleanings under the direction of Pharmacy Leadership and/or Compounding Quality Compliance Team. *Compliance will be tracked via completion of logs and routine environmental sampling (air and surface).&nbsp;</p><p><br>Demonstrates competency in non-hazardous and hazardous sterile compounding through routine competencies (written and observational), periodic audits, and rounding visits. Observational checklists, growth media plates and media-filled bags/vials will be used to validate practices.
