Reviews renewal and new business quotes prior to issuance. Makes marketing calls to members and brokers on an as needed basis. This position requires a great deal of creativity and latitude. Prior experience working remote out of a home office is required for remote positions.</li></ul><p><strong><u>Responsibilities</u></strong></p><ul><li>The Associate Underwriter responsibilities include but are not limited to:</li><li>Assess and price renewals, new business and endorsements according to guidelines outlined in the underwriting manual and within their authority level. Lines of business to underwrite include general liability, auto liability and physical damage, improper sexual conduct, liquor liability, employee benefits liability, umbrella, property and crime, social service professional liability, directors&rsquo; &amp; officers, employment practices liability and accident.</li><li>Prepare the underwriting and rating work-up on renewal policies and new business as assigned. Such work-up to include but is not limited to:<ol><li>Select and/or verify class code and premium base and rating exposure</li><li>Calculate final premium including specialty charges (special events and additional insureds)</li><li>Determine appropriate credits and/or debits to obtain a fair and sustained premium for risk</li><li>Determine coverage forms and necessary endorsements</li><li>Effectively communicate to broker quote conditions</li><li>Provide accurate documentation in the file and/or in electronic notes of underwriting thought process</li></ol></li><li>Ability to think outside of the box and develop solutions for our members that address their specific insurance needs</li><li>A personal commitment to providing Inspired Service in every internal and external client engagement</li><li>Provide customer service by responding promptly and courteously to all requests for information</li><li>Ensure timely and accurate preparation for issuance of policies</li><li>Effectively communicate company standards, mission, underwriting guidelines, and requirements to brokers and/or members</li><li>Provide accurate documentation in the file and/or in electronic notes of underwriting thought process</li><li>Order/review inspection reports to assess risk quality and to confirm exposure base accuracy</li><li>Actively manage assigned book of business. Responsible for achieving company renewal retention ratio goal on a monthly basis in addition to company profitability goals</li><li>Accurate and timely processing of endorsements</li><li>Appropriately refer accounts exceeding authority level</li><li>Actively manage relationships with assigned brokers, customers and members.</li><li>Ensure that information available from internal and external resources is properly integrated into underwriting decision making</li><li>Ensure that referral guidelines are properly followed regarding all lines of business underwritten</li><li>Provides training and mentoring for other members of the Insurance Operations team when required</li><li>Miscellaneous tasks &ndash; Any and all assignments related to the insurance operations department as requested</li><li>Some travel required</li></ul><p><strong><u>Required Skills</u></strong></p><ul><li>Must possess a moderate understanding of property and casualty insurance coverages; familiarity with ISO commercial class codes is required</li><li>Knowledge of underwriting principles and processes is required</li><li>Solid mathematical aptitude</li><li>Proficient verbal and written communication skills</li><li>Ability to work independently with little direct supervision and within a team environment as needed</li><li>Basic to intermediate skills with Excel, Word, Outlook and Power Point</li><li>Candidate should be organized and able to multi-task, provide follow-up and manage a significant book of business</li><li>Strong customer service skills and a professional attitude are required</li><li>Candidate should posses excellent written and verbal communication skills, and sharp attention to detail.</li><li>Assist with training and development of less experienced staff.</li><li>During the course of performing job duties, the employee may be required to sit, bend, or reach for extended periods of up to 3 hours at a time.</li><li>Ability to achieve outcomes in a rapid-paced environment.</li><li>The employee may occasionally be required to lift or move objects weighing between 10 and 20 pounds.</li><li>The job demands adequate vision to clearly view a computer screen. Corrective lenses, if necessary, can be used to meet this requirement.</li><li>The job also demands adequate hearing to accomplish job tasks.</li></ul><p><strong><u>Experience</u></strong></p><ul><li>2-4 years related work experience as Associate Underwriter or Commercial CSR or 5 years as an Underwriting Assistant/Support Specialist or equivalent preferred</li><li>Experience in a multi-state and multi-line commercial insurance environment preferred</li><li>Prior experience working remotely from a home office 100% of the time is required for remote positions</li></ul><p><strong><u>Education</u></strong></p><ul><li>4-year degree (or directly-related equivalent experience) preferred</li><li>CIC, AINS or comparable designations preferred</li></ul><p><br></p><div data-offset-key=\"adeae-0-0\" id=\"isPasted\"><span data-offset-key=\"adeae-0-0\" style=\"font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;\"><span data-text=\"true\">Compensation:&nbsp;</span></span><span data-offset-key=\"adeae-0-1\" style=\"font-style: italic;\"><span data-text=\"true\">The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country.
