This position has been evaluated for compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act and is subject to premium pay for all hours worked in excess of 40 in a payroll week.&#160;<br><br><strong><u>Salary/Rate:</u></strong>&#160;$18.00-$20.00, 40 hour per week, Union Grade: 9<br><br><b><u>Qualifications-Education &amp; Experience, Knowledge, Skills &amp; Abilities:</u></b><ul><li><strong>Formal Education:&#160;</strong><ul><li>High School Diploma</li></ul></li><li><strong>Experience:&#160;</strong><ul><li>Two years of experience as a mechanic working in a shop, including equipment operation, use of the tire machine, etc., or an associates degree in vehicle repair.</li></ul></li><li><strong>Additional Knowledge/Skills:&#160;</strong><ul><li><strong>&#8203;&#8203;&#8203;&#8203;&#8203;&#8203;&#8203;</strong>NYS Driver License, CDL w/Passenger endorsement and NYS Inspection License for at least up to 18,000lbs required. &#160;Cutting, welding, and fabrication skills. &#160;Scan tool diagnostic and troubleshooting skills. &#160;Computer skills such as excel, operating general software, email, and creating files to record service and repair work. &#160;Must also be able to read maps, navigate, and work a flexible schedule. &#160;&#160;</li></ul></li><li><strong>Essential Functions:</strong><ul><li>With or without reasonable accommodations the incumbent must be able to read and write and speak the English language at a college level, be capable of performing sometimes complex mathematical calculations, statistical calculations and other higher mathematical operations, must be able to communicate with all levels of the institution in written and spoken form. &#160;The individual must be able to work independently. &#160;The ability to maintain regular and prompt attendance is essential to the successful performance of this position. &#160; Other essential functions may be required.&#160;</li></ul></li></ul><b><u>Job Responsibilities:</u></b><ul><li>Service university vehicles at proper intervals; tire replacement, brake replacement, scheduling of repairs and parts, recalls, diagnostics and making sure vehicles are safe to operate</li><li>Repair all University owned equipment such as weed whackers, mowers, tractors, blowers, fork lifts, etc.</li><li>Inspect university vehicles (NYS Inspection) and keep records of inspections</li><li>Daily fueling, cleaning of interior and exterior, checking fluids and lights for daily operation, much like a vehicle rental agency</li><li>Assist Manager in controlling the Motorpool reservation system when Manager is not available</li><li>Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems</li><li>Repair shop equipment</li><li>Maintain a clean and professional shop area</li><li>Perform major and minor repairs on vehicles, including but not limited to brakes, tires, lights, bearings, motor repair, tune ups, fluids, body repair such as door handles, shift levers, hinges, etc., transmission repair such as filters, u-joints, tail shafts, computer related diagnosis and repair, and any type of repair to keep vehicles in operation</li><li>Weld and fabricate mig and brazing, etc. in the shop and on campus</li><li>Repair lawn equipment</li><li>Operate equipment, such as forklift, backhoe, etc</li><li>Maintain motor pool parking lot (clear snow and clean)</li><li>Work in all types of weather conditions</li><li>Operate snow removal equipment</li><li>Operate bus in safe manor</li><li>Order parts for shop and supplies</li><li>Monitor and maintain passenger safety on bus</li><li>Maintains a safe working environment within and around their facilities and associated equipment and supplies including, but not limited to, obtaining Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information pertaining to any hazards associated with their work environment</li><li>Safety: Participate in safety training and comply with safety rules, regulations, and protocols</li><li>Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned</li></ul><strong><u>Physical Environment:</u></strong><br>Personal Protective Equipment must be worn when required. &#160;A respiratory function test and the ability to use respirators may be required. &#160;Stairs and uneven surfaces may be present; Artificial lifts, etc. may or may not be available. &#160;The position may require the incumbent to walk outdoors in all types of weather to other buildings or offices located on the campus. &#160;The Campus is located in an area that contains numerous hills and slopes and may not always be fully accessible for mobility impaired individuals.&#160;<br><br><strong><u>About Alfred University:</u></strong><br>Lighting the way for students since 1836.&#160;<i>&#8220;We've always been a place for makers, especially those who make the future.
