Description

Position Summary The Fair Concert Fire Watch Attendant is responsible for providing fire and life-safety monitoring during concerts and other designated events held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. This position serves as a critical component of the District's emergency preparedness program by monitoring fire alarm systems, maintaining communication with security and District personnel, documenting activities, and ensuring prompt notification of emergency responders when required. The Fire Watch Attendant must remain alert, exercise sound judgment, and respond appropriately to fire alarm activations, emergency situations, and safety concerns occurring within the concert venue and surrounding areas. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Monitor fire alarm control panels and associated life-safety systems during concerts and designated events. Maintain continuous communication with District Operations staff, Security personnel, and event management staff. Observe and report fire hazards, unsafe conditions, and emergency situations. Respond to fire alarm activations in accordance with established District procedures. Immediately notify emergency responders, including the local fire department, when conditions warrant or as directed by established protocols. Maintain accurate fire watch logs, including patrol observations, alarm activations, incidents, and communications. Document and prepare incident reports for emergencies, alarms, safety concerns, and unusual occurrences. Monitor designated event areas for compliance with fire and life-safety requirements. Assist with crowd safety monitoring and emergency evacuations when directed. Maintain situational awareness of venue operations and event activities. Coordinate with Security, Operations, and emergency personnel during incidents. Attend required pre-event briefings and training sessions. Perform other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of basic fire and life-safety principles. Ability to remain attentive and focused for extended periods. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively by radio and in person. Ability to accurately document activities and incidents. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergencies. Ability to follow written procedures and emergency response protocols. Ability to work effectively with District staff, security personnel, emergency responders, and the public. Minimum Qualifications Previous experience in security, public safety, emergency services, event operations, military service, fire watch, or a related field is desirable. Ability to successfully complete District-provided training. Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts during the Fair. Ability to pass any required background screening. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods. Ability to hear radio communications and alarm signals. Ability to observe and identify safety concerns within the venue. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to respond quickly during emergency situations. Working Conditions Work is performed primarily during the annual Fair and may include concerts, special events, and other large public gatherings. The environment may involve loud noise levels, large crowds, evening work, and emergency response situations requiring immediate action.
