Description

We are seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of experienced Assistant Chief Engineer who can meet the requirements. Please review the following requirements carefully before applying. Only applicants with verifiable dredge experience and qualifications should apply. This position will require frequent travel and reliable transportation, this position is not for a live on dredge. Employees are provided with per diem to cover their own lodging expense. Applicants must meet all the listed qualifications to be considered for the position. Those who cannot meet these requirements will not be considered. Candidates will be required to demonstrate their ability to meet and perform these requirements upon hire. Experienced Assistant Chief Engineers are responsible for supporting the Chief Engineer and overseeing the engine crew when the Chief Engineer is not on shift or duty. The Assistant Chief Engineer and their team are responsible for maintaining the dredging machinery as well as the dredge’s support equipment machinery including the tender boats, anchor barges, and crane barge. ADDITIONAL DETAILS BEFORE YOU PROCEED Applications that do not provide sufficient dredge experience, detailed work history, job responsibilities, and accurate employment dates will be disqualified. We do not provide transportation; this is the employee's responsibility. You will be assigned to dredges based on the company's operational needs. We are unable to make accommodations based on an employee's home location. While we strive to accommodate requests, when possible, we cannot guarantee such accommodations will be made. This is not for a live-on dredge. We provide per diem, and employees are responsible for their lodging and meals. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or equivalent Five or more years of experience in maritime engineering and supervisory experience. Dredge Mechanical experience is REQUIRED . Excellent safety, mechanical, and leadership skills Shipyard and/or vendor coordination experience is required Working knowledge of electrical systems i.e. motor controls, DC drives, circuits, etc. USCG Licensed Chief Engineer of steam and/or motor vessels preferred Proficient computer skills and maintaining information databases Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing Trained in Lock/Out Tag Out Procedures, Fall Arrest, Confined Space, and Ladder Safety (on-the-job training also provided in these areas) Ability to meet physical requirements of the position as outlined in the Functional Job Description Must be able to successfully pass all pre-employment testing (drug test, fit test) in addition to random drug and alcohol testing ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (THIS IS NOT ALL-INCLUSIVE) Upholds the Company’s commitment to an injury-free workplace; leads and models safe work practices Follows all safety rules and regulations as well as all company policies and procedures Works safely around machinery; observes and instructs others in proper equipment use; uses/wears all required PPE Ensures team members are provided a safe work environment and are knowledgeable of safe work practices and policies Directly supervises the day-to-day engine room operations, crew operations, and maintenance on the dredge Schedules engine room crews and shifts, and promptly reports to the HR department regarding disciplinary concerns, including poor work performances, absenteeism, and tardiness Oversees and manages activities of vendor repair crews on the dredge Manages the computer-based vessel level preventive maintenance management program, including maintenance and inventory documentation and record-keeping (training provided) Assigns and supervises all activities of engine room crew, including Booster Operators Ensures proper orientation, familiarization, and mentoring for new crew members. Evaluates the performance of subordinates and recognizes, develops, and promotes talented crewmembers Mentors all crewmembers and promotes safety awareness in all operations. Leads pre-shift meetings, Job Safety Analyses, and safety walks on the dredge and attendant vessels Coordinates vessel maintenance operations with Captain and Project Management staff; coordinates and communicates equipment issues with the Dredge and Maintenance Managers Conducts emergency drills as required by the US Coast Guard and keeps accurate records Ensures the vessel meets all regulatory requirements and is properly prepared for agency inspections MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High School degree or equivalent Two or more years of experience as Deckhand Excellent safety and mechanical skills Ability to meet physical requirements of the position as outlined in the Functional Job Description Must be able to successfully pass all pre-employment testing (drug test, fit test) in addition to random drug and alcohol testing Bilingual in Spanish is a plus. SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION Weekly pay, one week in arrears 4/2 Rotation, 28 days on, 14 off Standard work hours are typically 12 hours daily; however, adjustments may be made depending on the operational requirements. This is an FLSA, Non-Exempt position, meaning any hours worked over 40 in the same work week will be compensated as overtime. Candidates who do not meet the minimum requirements will not be considered. This is not a VISA sponsored position, must be authorized to work in the US.
