Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050. Annual Short Term Incentive Bonus – Up to 15% 4-day, 10-hour work schedule Affordable Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits (effective on start date), including Telehealth options and additional supplemental insurances Disability and Life Insurance (effective on start date) Paid time-off, including vacation, holidays, sick leave, and parental leave Employee Assistance Program Internal progression opportunities Tuition reimbursement Discounted insurance plans for pets, automobiles and homes POSITION OVERVIEW The Sr. Specialist, Procurement – Strategic Supply is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies that ensure reliable supply of goods and services required for safe and efficient mining operations. This role supports cost control, supplier performance, and risk management across key procurement categories. The position works closely with operations, engineering, finance, ESG, and health and safety teams to identify sourcing opportunities, evaluate suppliers, negotiate commercial terms, and monitor supplier performance against cost, quality, delivery, and compliance expectations. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES • Category Ownership: Manage assigned spend categories (equipment, consumables, maintenance services, logistics, ICT, ESG related services). Align sourcing strategies with production plans and cost reduction objectives. • Market & Price Intelligence: Track global copper mining supply trends, commodity price movements, geopolitical risks, and emerging technologies. Produce regular market briefings for leadership. • Supplier Identification & Qualification: Research potential suppliers, conduct due diligence (financial health, ESG performance, HSE records), and keep the approved vendor list current in the ERP system. • RFI / RFP / RFQ Management: Draft, issue, and evaluate requests for information, proposals, and quotations. Lead cross functional evaluation panels and score responses on technical, commercial, ESG, and risk criteria. • Negotiation & Award: Lead price and commercial term negotiations, secure internal approvals per the authority matrix, and issue purchase orders or contracts. • Cost Savings & Value Engineering: Identify and execute cost avoidance, cost reduction, and value engineering opportunities. Track, verify, and report savings against annual targets. • Supplier Performance & Relationship Management: Conduct quarterly business reviews, monitor KPI dashboards (on time delivery, quality, safety, ESG), and drive corrective action plans when needed. • Risk Management: Perform supplier risk assessments (financial, geopolitical, ESG, HSE). Maintain a risk register and implement mitigation strategies such as dual sourcing, safety stocks, or contingency contracts. • Compliance & Ethics: Ensure all sourcing activities comply with local mining regulations, corporate ESG policies, and anti-corruption legislation. Participate in periodic compliance audits. • Spend Analysis & Reporting: Compile spend data by category, supplier, and project; identify consolidation opportunities. Produce monthly and quarterly reports covering cost savings, supplier performance, risk exposure, and ESG metrics. • Process Improvement: Review and refine sourcing processes (e sourcing, e contracting, approval workflows) to reduce cycle time and increase transparency. Mentor junior procurement staff on best practice sourcing techniques. POSITION REQUIREMENT Required • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or equivalent experience • 5–8 years of procurement experience, including at least 2 years in strategic sourcing • Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP) • Advanced skills in Excel and data analysis • Strong understanding of commercial contracts, service level agreements, price adjustment clauses, and ESG provisions • Knowledge of supplier evaluation, sourcing processes, and procurement best practices • Understanding of mining-specific HSE, environmental, and customs regulations and awareness of corporate ESG standards • Valid driver’s license • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English Preferred • Experience in mining, metals, or heavy industrial environments • Professional certification (CPSM, CPM, or CIPS) • Experience with Power BI or similar reporting tools • Familiarity with e sourcing platforms (e.g., Jaggaer, Coupa) • Experience managing ESG-related supplier programs • Additional language skills relevant to regional supply base CORE COMPETENCIES • Analytical thinking: turning data and market insights into actionable sourcing decisions • Negotiation: achieving win win commercial outcomes while protecting mine interests • Risk orientation: proactively identifying and mitigating supply chain, financial, and ESG risks • Stakeholder management: building trusted relationships across operations, engineering, finance, ESG, and health safety functions • Attention to detail: ensuring accuracy in data capture, contract terms, and KPI tracking • Adaptability: thriving in a dynamic mining environment with shifting production schedules and market volatility • Ethical integrity: commitment to transparency, anti-corruption standards, and responsible sourcing WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS • Work primarily conducted at an active mine site • Exposure to noise, dust, and varying weather conditions • Walking on uneven terrain and navigating operational areas • Combination of office-based and field-based work • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) • Compliance with all site safety and training requirements All candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol test, and background check.
