JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Division Manager, Operations Superintendent, Foreman and the Utility Worker ("UW") IV, the UW III must demonstrate a proficiency in communicating with the general public, Company employees, supervisors, and others. The UW III must demonstrate the ability to prepare legible, clear, concise, and complete written reports, map postings, meter reading route maps, ACC postings, daily reports, and CAGRD records. The UW III must understand and communicate information related to customer service, maintain proper conduct, and present a positive image of the Company. Must be available to perform on-call duties and work overtime in emergency as well as planned job assignments. This position is assigned to all Divisions except Pinal Valley.
JOB DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• General operation and maintenance of the water distribution system, installation of additional facilities such as mains, services, hydrants, and auxiliary fittings.
• Record any system or equipment changes on maps and records.
• Perform regular preventive maintenance according to standard practice schedules on all pumps and equipment. Install new or replacement service lines and meters.
• Make turn-ons and turn-offs according to work orders to connect or disconnect service.
• May operate auxiliary equipment such as purification or treatment system.
• May be responsible for materials and supplies inventory and applicable paperwork.
• Utility Workers may be assigned other emergency or regular duties dependent upon available time and needs of the area.
• Will perform other duties as assigned.
• This position will perform Field Service Technician duties as needed after hours and in situations that management deems necessary to include emergencies and necessary reassignments during normal working hours.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school graduate with vocational training in pipefitting, electrical, or internal combustion engine crafts.
Two years' experience in pipefitting or general maintenance mechanic with some pipefitting.
Mature enough to work alone effectively.
Ability to operate heavy equipment and welding experience.
Understanding of water production and distribution methods and systems.
Mechanical aptitude: use of hand tools and understanding of basic mechanics.
Functionally literate and competent in basic mathematics.
Must be able to use, or learn to use, the handheld meter reading device and related equipment.
PROFESSIONAL OR OTHER CERTIFICATION OR LICENSING
Must have a valid, appropriate Arizona driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Must have obtained and currently possess at least a Grade 1 Water Distribution System Operators Certificate from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.
Must have a valid Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Grade 2 Water Distribution Operator Certificate before UW III an advance out of the fourth wage step.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
