OR Nurses also assist the surgeon and the surgical team in their tasks. &nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p><p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Position Responsibilities</strong></span></p><p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Operating Room Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles. In addition to general nursing care, responsibilities of OR Nurses include (but are not limited to):</span></p><ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\"><li style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Assesses, plans, and evaluates the nursing care needs of the patient before, during and after a surgical procedure.</li><li style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Provides nursing care to the patient undergoing surgical procedures.</li><li style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Provides comfort and support for pre-operative patients.</li><li style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Participates in the care of patients receiving conscious sedation.</li><li style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Carries out physician orders.</li><li style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Administers prescribed medications, applies dressings, and monitors vital signs.</li><li style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Assists physician during procedures.</li><li style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Maintains aseptic techniques and actively monitors situations which could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.</li><li style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Coordinates the operating room with respect to sterility, cleanliness, availability of functioning equipment and supplies.</li><li style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Ensures the proper handling of specimens.</li><li style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Serves as the primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.</li><li style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems.</li><li style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Ensures that operating on correct patient and the correct procedure is being performed.</li><li style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Provides basic, bedside care.</li><li style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Responds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocol.</li><li style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Records all care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms.</li><li style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">May prep operating room for patient/procedure.</li><li style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomatology.</li><li style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Assists in positioning, responding to comfort/safety of patient.&nbsp;</li><li style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Provides for accurate care and handling of specimens.</li><li style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif;
