Our work continues year-round, collaborating with partners to build a movement that delivers meaningful change for all Wisconsinites. We seek outstanding applicants who share our values and vision to join the team, help win elections, and build a future where everyone can thrive.
role
Proudly a Bargaining Unit Position with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
The Opportunity: As the AAPI Coalitions Manager , you will be an ambassador and strategist connecting the Democratic Party of Wisconsin with the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. Reporting to the Coalitions Director, your mission is to build durable organizing power and deepen engagement in historically underrepresented communities across the state ahead of the 2026 elections. This is an active, external-facing role: you will spend your time conducting outreach with community leaders, hosting coalition events, identifying storytellers, and representing the Party at local festivals and meetings. You will translate our statewide political strategy into culturally competent, community-level action.
You’re our person if:
You are a natural relationship builder. You know how to walk into a room of strangers, find common ground, and leave with five new contacts. You understand how to build trust with local influencers, non-profits, and grassroots leaders. You are deeply rooted. You have a passion for, and a strong understanding of, the unique political landscape, values, and concerns of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community community in Wisconsin. You are a cross-departmental collaborator. You don't work in a silo. You know how to take the relationships you build and partner with the Organizing Team to build an in-language phone bank, or partner with the Communications team to elevate a community storyteller. You are an active "Doer." You aren't looking for a desk job. You love attending community service initiatives, weekend festivals, and voter education events to meet voters where they are. You are responsible and attentive to detail. As representative of the party you must ensure you are aware of current situations/dynamics in your portfolio and can maintain good record keeping skills.
Job Responsibilities:
Outreach & Relationship Management: Manage and execute a targeted outreach plan for the Asian American and Pacific Islander coalition. Host recurring meetings with community leaders, local elected officials, and new stakeholders to build trust and power. Event Execution: Plan and host community service initiatives, voter education events, and coalition-specific actions. Represent DPW by implementing high-traffic canvassing at relevant community events and cultural festivals. Capacity Building: Provide strategic support to assigned constituency Caucuses and execute efforts to recruit and build volunteer leadership within the coalition. Cross-Departmental Integration: Collaborate with the Organizing Department to establish culturally competent, coalition-specific community canvasses and phone banks. Advise on relational organizing and volunteer recruitment programs. Intelligence & Messaging: Provide crucial context, memos, and briefings for principals and high-level surrogates ahead of community events. Maintain statewide lists of contacts for outreach and storyteller engagement. Special Projects: Execute special projects assigned to the Political Department, such as State Convention assignments or surrogate tours.
Core Qualifications: Accountability & Solution-Oriented: You take full ownership of your actions and commitments, holding yourself to a high standard and seeing objectives through to completion. When challenges arise, you approach them with a problem-solving mindset, focusing on solutions rather than pointing fingers. Collaboration & Teamwork: You succeed by working as a team, stepping up to support teammates, and sharing knowledge freely. You actively break down silos by connecting across teams, inviting different perspectives, and staying open to new ideas to achieve shared goals. Growth & Adaptability: You are dedicated to continuous improvement and challenge yourself to learn and adapt. You proactively seek, offer, and act on feedback with openness and can anticipate potential obstacles to take proactive steps. Respect & Inclusion: You build strong relationships by treating everyone with kindness, dignity, and trust. You approach interactions assuming positive intent and have the courage to address difficult topics directly and honestly while showing care for others. Transparent Communication: You communicate openly and honestly to build trust and alignment. You are proactive in setting clear expectations, sharing the "why" behind decisions, and providing timely updates to ensure the right people have the information they need.
Qualifications (Required):
Community Expertise: Proven ability to work within these marginalized communities and advocate for the needs of that community. Also having a deep connection to your assigned coalition. Relationship Management: Proven ability to effectively build and manage relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders (elected officials, local influencers, businesses, non-profits, or grassroots groups). Cultural Competency: Deep understanding of how to build authentic relationships across lines of difference, and the ability to apply an inclusive lens to political strategy. Project Management: A relentless goal-orientation with the ability to multitask, managing large community events alongside daily 1:1 outreach. Communication Skills: Exceptional interpersonal skills and a positive, customer-service attitude when communicating with people from various backgrounds. Transportation: Access to reliable transportation and willingness to travel statewide.
Qualifications (Preferred):
Language Skills: Fluency in Hmong (written and/or verbal). Campaign Experience: Prior successful experience conducting outreach for a political campaign, government department, or advocacy organization.
Note: On-year requirements include working outside of normal work hours; including canvassing and other election-preparation as necessary.
Benefits : Great benefits including; excellent health care ($1/month), dental ($1/month), vision ($1/month), life insurance (free), short term and long-term disability (free), mileage reimbursement, monthly cell phone stipend, paid vacation days, retirement plan with employer match, floating holidays, paid holidays.
Equity and Inclusion : The Democratic Party of Wisconsin has a vision for a deeply inclusive and diverse party organization, membership, and electorate. In order to be successful at the Democratic Party of Wisconsin candidates must have the cultural competence to successfully work with a diverse array of constituency groups. We especially strongly encourage applicants with close ties to Black, Indigenous, AAPI, Latinx, Muslim, non-English-speaking, disability, and LGBTQIA+ communities. The Democratic Party of Wisconsin is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
