VCS Classroom Aide
Position Status: Full time
Classification: Non-Exempt
Summary
The VCS Classroom Aide works to assist VCS Lead teachers in a variety of functions, including observing, supervising, guiding, and directing children. Additionally, assisting with organizational duties, and optimizing a safe and nurturing learning and play environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Helps to ensure the safety and welfare of the children and protects each from physical or emotional harm. This includes performing all tasks with an appropriate level of confidentiality.
Provides an environment where everyone can have a positive experience throughout the day.
Treats all children, families, and staff members with dignity and respect, and allow for individual differences.
Prepares and follows a curriculum based on developmentally appropriate practices that helps each child reach his/her fullest potential in all areas of physical, emotional, and spiritual development.
Supervises and interacts with children at all times; mealtimes, rest periods, diapering/restroom times, play times, and activity times.
Accurately maintains observation records and other required classroom logs.
Familiar with all health and emergency policies of the program and ready to implement them when necessary.
Helps with general housekeeping tasks.
Shows initiative in the improvement of early childhood education, the program, and the curriculum by sharing ideas and participating in available trainings.
Maintain a professional attitude at all times.
Maintain appropriate communication with staff, children, and families in a warm and professional manner.
Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED (minimum).
Maintains and demonstrates a mature Christian lifestyle consistent with the teachings of the Church.
Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Knowledge of child cognitive, social, and skills development methods and techniques.
Knowledge of play, reading, and quiet-time activities for children.
Child supervision skills.
Ability to provide basic nutrition and hygiene services for infants and young children.
Knowledge of childcare facility, services and/or staff licensure and certification requirements.
Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children.
All employees, regardless of position, serve as role models for children and adolescents who are served by our ministry. Therefore, each employee must at all times be emotionally stable and able to function effectively with children, adolescents and adults who may have mental or behavioral health problems. The staff must be able to demonstrate appropriate behavior, expression of emotions, as well as role modeling.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:
Sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, squatting, crawling, stooping, walking, and the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and in case of emergency a 40-pound child
Manual dexterity with the use of hands, fingers to feel objects, tools, and controls
Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity with or without correction that will enable people in the role to complete administrative and clerical tasks, as well as inspect and analyze.
Hearing and speaking
Excellent English communication skills.
