Description
Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.
The Intern, Production Support will gain hands on experience supporting production planning, reviewing engineering drawings, managing bill of materials, updating shop orders, and working with ERP and document control systems. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and production teams while developing a strong understanding of how planning, procurement, and manufacturing come together to deliver world-class ships.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.
What you’ll do
Review drawings. Understand bill of materials. Understand and appy applicable run rules for material availability. Update planned shop orders. Understand production schedules to help incorporate changes prior to class plan start. Review and maintain data in ERP and document control systems. Liaise with various stakeholders (engineering, production support, Operations, CMDM) when required. Perform additional duties as assigned.
What you’ll bring
Enrollment in the 3rd or 4th year of a technical (Manufacturing/Industrial/Mechanical/Mechatronics) engineering post-secondary program. Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings Experience in utilizing ERP software tools for material and inventory planning preferred Working knowledge of CAD software suite and document control systems and databases (Navisworks, Ship Constructor and AutoCAD preferred) Understanding of manufacturing operations and relationship between planning, procurement, design, and production. Ability to apply inventory and material management advanced practices. Knowledge of document control systems and databases. Ability to work well independently with limited direction and in a team environment. Communication and interpersonal skills to explain rules and procedures clearly. Time management skills and ability to work on several issues simultaneously. Problem-solving and critical thinking skills to improve production processes. Attention to details while keeping big-picture goals in mind
