Organization Summary
East Side House, founded in 1891, is a 501(c) (3) organization that has served the South Bronx since 1963. The organization is dedicated to the community and focused on providing resources and opportunities. East Side House has identified that education is the foundation for economic improvement. Its youth education and technology programs teach skills to allow its students and clients to become more self-sufficient and independent. As a community resource, the organization also provides services to families and a growing senior population. In 2020 the organization began food distribution as an additional way to provide economic support to the community we serve.
ESH summer programs offer students additional learning time in a fun, engaging, and safe environment. Students are offered a wide variety of activities, including homework help, robotics, team sports, karate, dance, and music. Educational methods are used to build and reinforce the skills needed to reach New York State standards for promotion and graduation
The primary responsibility of the Youth Educator is to design and lead diverse enrichment activities. Therefore, we are seeking creative professionals with experience working with the youth in the following (but not limited to) areas: civic engagement, music, visual arts, martial arts, media technology, dance, sports, and recreation (soccer, tennis, basketball, volleyball, or lacrosse), health awareness and community leadership.
Primary Functions
Duties and Responsibilities shall include but are not limited to the following:
· Identify, create, and facilitate age-appropriate, thematic-based lesson plans and activities.
· Work as a part of a collaborative team, providing support to any specialist implementing activities.
· Prepare the learning working environment by creating a welcoming space that exhibits participant's work.
· Build positive relations with youth and adults to serve as a role model with respect to demeanor, communication, and behavior.
· Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of participants in the program by closely supervising all activities.
· Assist in participant's enrollment, recording and submitting daily attendance records and other required documents to the program director.
· Inspect daily all facilities (including shared spaces), equipment, and supplies; be sure all are accounted for and put away at the end of each day.
· Demonstrate commitment to leadership development, community building, and community organizing as strategies for social change.
· Organize storage areas and control the use of materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or abuse and to minimize the time required for distribution and collection
· Maintain accurate program documentation (incident/accident/behavior reports, attendance & sign-in / sign-out sheets).
· Understand and communicate the East Side House Settlement mission and the goals of the Compass program to the participants and community members.
· Actively participate in all aspects of professional development, including scheduled supervision, team meetings, pre-service training, and additional paid professional development training required. Demonstrate key competencies including initiative, teamwork, cooperation, preparedness, professionalism, reliability, and a willingness to improve continuously.
· Organize and participate in external special events to promote the Agency's mission and image, cultivate relationships, and generate broad support.
· Adhere to all ESH policies, practices, and procedures

Qualifications
Required Skills/Experience
· Minimum High School Diploma or GED required.
· Some college preferred.
· Must have experience working with elementary schools, preferably in a racially, ethically, and socio-emotionally diverse urban community.
· Minimum of two years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience required.
· A genuine enthusiasm for developing professional skills through training opportunities and field practice.
· Possess and ability to engage and lead activities in your area of specialty; strong communication skills, strong organizational skills, excellent judgment, ability to work in a team in various environments.
· Candidates possessing skills in foreign languages, visual arts, music, or performing arts are strongly encouraged to apply.
· Must be able to communicate effectively with all participants while remaining professional at all times
· Must be able to motivate the students while setting an example in all areas, including responsibility, timeliness, organization, attendance, and most importantly, professionalism.
· Ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
· Being bilingual is a plus.

Expected Work Schedule
This is a seasonal part-time position, working up to 20 hours. Flexible schedule a plus. Workday/hours subject to change based on ESH’s needs. Professional development and staff meetings will also be required.

Travel is primarily local for trips and scatter sites.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This position is generally a sedentary role; however, some filing and site visits are required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. The organization is dedicated to the community and focused on providing resources and opportunities. East Side House has identified that education is the foundation for economic improvement. Its youth education and technology programs teach skills to allow its students and clients to become more self-sufficient and independent. As a community resource, the organization also provides services to families and a growing senior population. In 2020 the organization began food distribution as an additional way to provide economic support to the community we serve.\\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\nESH summer programs offer students additional learning time in a fun, engaging, and safe environment. Students are offered a wide variety of activities, including homework help, robotics, team sports, karate, dance, and music. Educational methods are used to build and reinforce the skills needed to reach New York State standards for promotion and graduation\\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\nThe primary responsibility of the Youth Educator is to design and lead diverse enrichment activities. Therefore, we are seeking creative professionals with experience working with the youth in the following (but not limited to) areas: civic engagement, music, visual arts, martial arts, media technology, dance, sports, and recreation (soccer, tennis, basketball, volleyball, or lacrosse), health awareness and community leadership.\\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\nPrimary Functions\\r\\n\\r\\nDuties and Responsibilities shall include but are not limited to the following:\\r\\n\\r\\n· Identify, create, and facilitate age-appropriate, thematic-based lesson plans and activities.\\r\\n\\r\\n· Work as a part of a collaborative team, providing support to any specialist implementing activities.\\r\\n\\r\\n· Prepare the learning working environment by creating a welcoming space that exhibits participant's work.\\r\\n\\r\\n· Build positive relations with youth and adults to serve as a role model with respect to demeanor, communication, and behavior.\\r\\n\\r\\n· Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of participants in the program by closely supervising all activities.\\r\\n\\r\\n· Assist in participant's enrollment, recording and submitting daily attendance records and other required documents to the program director.\\r\\n\\r\\n· Inspect daily all facilities (including shared spaces), equipment, and supplies; be sure all are accounted for and put away at the end of each day.\\r\\n\\r\\n· Demonstrate commitment to leadership development, community building, and community organizing as strategies for social change.\\r\\n\\r\\n· Organize storage areas and control the use of materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or abuse and to minimize the time required for distribution and collection\\r\\n\\r\\n· Maintain accurate program documentation (incident/accident/behavior reports, attendance & sign-in / sign-out sheets).\\r\\n\\r\\n· Understand and communicate the East Side House Settlement mission and the goals of the Compass program to the participants and community members.\\r\\n\\r\\n· Actively participate in all aspects of professional development, including scheduled supervision, team meetings, pre-service training, and additional paid professional development training required.
