Overview 5 Henson Hall Tower is a general medical/surgical unit that specializes in Orthopedic patients, though we also care for general medical patients. It is a 27-bed unit. All patient rooms are private and configured in a racetrack layout. Patients range in age from neonates to 18 years. We occasionally treat young adults. Primary Diagnoses: Blount’s Cerebral Palsy Clubfoot Developmental and Congenital Hip Disorders Hand Anomalies Joint Infections Limb Length Discrepancy Neuromuscular Disorders Spina Bifida Spine Deformities Trauma-Related Injuries Utilizes nursing process and knowledge of scientific principles to provide comprehensive, age appropriate nursing care for low acuity assigned patients. Assists with the shift supervision of nonprofessional personnel as necessary. At Children’s Mercy, we are committed to ensuring that everyone feels welcomed within our walls. A successful candidate for this position will join us as we strive to create a workplace that reflects the community we serve, as well as our core values of kindness, curiosity, inclusion, team and integrity. Additionally, it’s important to us that we remain transparent with all potential job candidates. Because we value the safety of the patients and families we serve, as well as the Children’s Mercy staff, we want to let you know that the seasonal influenza vaccine is a condition of employment for all employees in our organization. New employees must be willing to be vaccinated if found non-immune to measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) and chicken pox (varicella) and/or without evidence of tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccination since 2005. If you are selected for this position, you will be asked to supply your immunization records as proof of vaccination. If you and have any concerns about receiving these vaccines, medical and/or religious exemptions can be further discussed with Human Resources. Responsibilities Utilizes the nursing process to develop and implement a comprehensive, age-appropriate plan of care for the low acuity patient and family which promotes optimal patient outcomes. Meets the educational and informational needs of the low acuity patient and family, utilizing appropriate principles of teaching/learning. Promotes safe, efficient, family-centered care to low acuity patients. Delegates nursing care based on knowledge of staff qualifications/competency and patient care requirements. Qualifications Associate's Degree ADN Required. Current employees hired before September 1, 2013 are grandfathered and permitted to continue in the direct care nursing role. and No Experience necessary / On-the-Job Training or Bachelor's Degree Preferred for all nurses hired after September 1, 2013. Nurses hired after this date without a BSN, must complete their degree within 5 years of their hire date. and No Experience necessary / On-the-Job Training One of the following: Licensed RN - MO, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri required upon hire One of the following: Licensed RN - Kansas, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas required upon hire Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire Specialty Certification relevant to unit’s patient population (determined by Nurse Manager/Director) Preferred Benefits at Children's Mercy The benefits plans at Children’s Mercy are one of many reasons we are recognized as one of the best places to work in Kansas City.
