Description

At Trinity Catholic High School our Athletic Administration is looking for coaches to lead and maximize every facet of a program. The successful candidate must adhere to specific principles in order to successfully provide the greatest possible experience for our students. A coach and his staff are in contact continuously with our students, their families and the community every day. This requires each candidate to possess specific qualities and skills in order to maintain retention. The information below is a specific description of coaching responsibilities regardless of the sport. Certainly, sports skills and concepts may vary, but execution of job requirements does not. Essential Duties: Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport. Assesses player’s skills and assigns team positions. Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development. Works with the athletics director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition. Assigns duties to an assistant coach as necessary. Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport. Observes players, during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement. Determines game strategy based on the team’s capabilities. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and always provides proper supervision of athletes. Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; and encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standard. Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury. Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student. Follows FHSAA regulations governing the athletic program. Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators. Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport by communicating with the news media, booster clubs, service clubs, and other organizations. Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms. Works with the athletic director to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners at the end of the season. Participates in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies, open house and other school events. Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records. Acumen – When we select a coach to direct a program it is with the understanding, they can develop individuals, teams and sport specific concepts. We expect their thirst for knowledge and improvement to be continual so they may always provide the best environment and experience to the students in their charge. Behavior – All coaches are responsible for their actions and those of their staff and players. This encompasses the treatment of those they interact with – including teammates, opponents, officials and related school staff members. Sportsmanship, humility and decency are all expected teachings by a Celtic Coach. Communication – Although not everyone is a great public speaker, the benefit of caring and thoughtful responses can be exercised by all. Coaches must maintain positive relationships with players and their families, even under duress. A Coach must be a resource for these families and to educate them on proper approaches (without ever letting families cross certain lines of etiquette). Coaches must speak regularly to participants and families, entertain questions of purpose and respond in a very timely manner to all inquiries. Competitive – Our Athletic Department wants to enjoy success, but not at all costs. We seek coaches who enjoy developing (all) players and teams. A coach should not have a ‘club’ mentality that simply looks to rally superior ranks of talent. Rather, take the talent given and make them rise to a greater level. Further, we want to push and demand from our athletes, but always with context. We must have Catholic values, character driven teachings (determination, perseverance, grit) and empathetic perspective in how we develop our individuals and our teams. Professionalism – How we act as a Coach is perhaps the ultimate trait that we seek each candidate to possess. How we work with Administration, Faculty, Staff, and Maintenance – in a cooperative fashion is vital. Further, how we dress, communicate and support others is all part of being a part of the TC winning environment. In all facets and always we want our Coaches to maintain a professional and moral demeanor.
