POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Activity Leader
DEPARTMENT: Programs
PERFORMANCE PROFILE SOURCE: Youth Development
REPORTS TO: Program Director/Site Coordinator
FSLA CLASSIFICATION: Non- Exempt
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Plans, implements, supervises, and evaluates activities provided within a specific program area such as Education, Social Emotional Learning, Virtual Education, Special Education, Social Recreation, Arts & Crafts, Physical Education, Safety, Sanitation and STEAM. Utilize and actively engage in Workplace.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Prepare Youth for Success:
•Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth DevelopmentOutcomes.
•Understand and Implement Knowledge Library resources and its functions.Promote and stimulate program participation
•Assist in recruiting new members
•Engage students
•Provide guidance and role modeling to members
Ensure a productive work environment:
•Participate in weekly After School Program staff meetings
•Attend all site meetings
•Complete Child Protective Services and Mandated Reportingdocuments
•Read, sign, and abide by monthly safety topics
•Monitor and evaluate programs, environment, services, and activities by activelyengaging to ensure safety of staff and members
•Assess programs and the appearance of all areas of the After School Program
OF KERN COUNTY
Program Development and Implementation:
•Plan, create, teach, implement, and administer programs, services, andactivities for members and visitors
•Create and submit lesson plans and/or scheduled activitiesto immediate supervisor as required
•Read and write without assistance
•Implement daily lesson plans and scheduled activities
•Apply BGCKC Youth Development Strategy
•Provide classroom management
•Implement and teach transition strategies
•Provide BGCKC and District positive redirection strategies
•Utilize District curriculum
•Prepare and submit periodic reports as directed
•Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety ofmembers, quality in programs, and appearance of the After School Program at alltimes
•Monitor and review ADP on a weekly basis to review, read, and signdocuments as provided
•Follow all BGCKC and individual school district policies and procedures
•Ability to supervise a minimum of 20 children in a safe environment independently.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
•Commitment to Safety
•Contribute to environment of safety through the learning and implementation andmonitoring of all safety-related best practices, policies, and procedures.
•Promote accountability to safety through consistent observation, adherence to allsafety rules and practices and proactive communication among members, parents,peers, and leadership.
•Obtain and maintain Mandated Reporter training and complete annual Child AbusePrevention training.
•Complete training and participate in all Emergency Preparedness protocols includingdrills and communication practices.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Participate in special programs and/or events
2.Utilize customer service model - LEARN Model - to help resolve issues regarding clientsand stakeholders
3.Oversee special programs and/or events (e.g. Lights on After School, Parent Night,Back to School night), and/or participate in the implementation of other unit activitiesas necessary
4.Assume other duties as assigned
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions, instruct, and advise/counsel. Adhere to BGCKC Code of Conduct at all times
External: Maintain contact with schools, members' parents, and others to assist in publicizing the After School Program and resolving problems with Club managers
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
•Must be 18 years of age or older•Must have proof of High School graduation or GED (Diploma or Transcripts)•Must provide Negative TB test results or Assessment test completed within the last 4 years•Must have at least 48 semester college units/68 quarter units or have a paraprofessionalcertification•Must have CPR/First Aid/AED Certification•Ability to read, write, spell, understand, and assist with math calculations/problems andassist with homework at all grade levels•Experience in working with children•Knowledge of youth development•Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems•Ability to effectively interact with the public•Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth•Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the Activity Leader position.
