Description
A3 Technology, Inc. is seeking experienced Design Engineers to support engineering design, documentation development, and technical validation activities associated with the device installation across FAA facilities as part of the BNATCS modernization effort.
The Design Engineer plays a critical role in translating site survey data into approved engineering documentation, reviewing vendor deliverables (SSWs, SSRs, SIPs), supporting position mapping, validating telecommunications and radio interface configurations, and ensuring compliance with FAA VoIP-based VCS architecture standards.
This position ensures technical consistency, safety, and install readiness across all sites.
Responsibilities:
Engineering Design Development
Develop and/or review Site Installation Plans (SIPs) for integration.
Validate equipment placement, rack elevations, cable routing, power requirements, and network connectivity.
Ensure integration aligns with approved VoIP-based VCS architecture.
Support position mapping and workstation configuration planning.
Technical Documentation Review
Review Vendor Site Survey Worksheets (SSWs) and Site Survey Reports (SSRs) for completeness and compliance.
Identify design discrepancies and coordinate corrective actions.
Document findings and recommended revisions.
Ensure documentation meets FAA standards and BNATCS program requirements.
Telecommunications & Interface Engineering
Validate telecom circuits, IP addressing, VLAN assignments, and network interface requirements.
Review radio, legal recording, and inter-system connectivity requirements.
Ensure configuration consistency across multiple deployment waves.
Support coordination with Engineering Services and Technical Operations.
Post-Site Survey Validation Support
Analyze survey results to determine remediation requirements.
Coordinate with Facilities KP and vendors to resolve engineering issues.
Confirm site readiness from an engineering compliance perspective.
Installation & Cutover Engineering Support
Provide reach-back engineering support during installation windows.
Support technical troubleshooting during integration.
Validate as-built documentation and final configuration compliance.
Deliverables & Compliance
Support generation of:
Reviewed and commented on SSWs, SSRs, and SIPs
Installation coordination records
Technical verification documentation
Legacy system transition planning documentation
Ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant prior to acceptance.
Skills Required:
College degree (or equivalent military or field experience).
Minimum 12 years of progressive experience supporting engineering design for communications, VoIP, ATC, radar, or mission-critical systems.
Strong experience reviewing and producing engineering installation documentation.
Working knowledge of IP networking fundamentals (routing, switching, VLANs, addressing).
Ability to interpret and produce:
Rack elevations
Wiring diagrams
Interconnect diagrams
Equipment layouts
Experience supporting multi-site nationwide deployments.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and installation plans.
Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail in safety-critical environments.
Proficiency using test equipment (e.g., multimeters, cable testers, continuity testers).
U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
Skills Preferred:
Prior experience supporting FAA, DoD, or other Federal aviation or critical infrastructure programs.
Familiarity with Voice Communication Systems (VCS), VoIP-based communications, or air traffic control support systems.
Experience supporting system cutovers, decommissioning, or legacy system disposition activities.
OSHA safety training or equivalent field safety certifications.
Work Environment & Travel
Work is primarily performed on-site at FAA facilities across the NAS, with additional work at contractor or integrator facilities as required.
Position requires frequent nationwide travel to FAA sites in support of surveys, remediation, installation readiness, and disposition execution.
Additionally, US Citizenship or documented proof of eligibility to work in the US is a must. Upon receiving a conditional offer of employment, candidates will undergo a Government investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for Government clearance. Verification of past employment, education and references is also required. It is imperative that candidates be either a US citizen or a current green card holder with the last 3 consecutive years as a resident of the US.
The salary range for positions is $50,000 to $175,000. This range is provided as a general guideline and should not be interpreted as a guarantee of compensation. Actual salary offers will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the specific responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s education, experience, location, knowledge, skills, and abilities. In addition, compensation may be influenced by applicable Federal Government contract labor categories and established contract wage rates.
