Description

Night Shift Position SUMMARY: The Vehicle Service Technician is responsible for ensuring assigned EMS vehicles have the required supply inventories and equipment and are ready to be put into service upon the arrival of the EMS crew. The VST performs duties to ensure the cleanliness and general maintenance of the facilities, equipment and vehicles. He/she shall assist the Materials Coordinator with duties required for the daily operations of the materials warehouse. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Wash and stock company vehicles Wash, disinfect and maintain reusable EMS equipment Maintain vehicle supply inventory at State and MAAS required standards; complete & maintain appropriate check off sheets verifying compliance Shuttle vehicles as needed Clean and maintain work areas, offices, restrooms and remove trash as needed; ensure parking areas are clear of trash and other debris. Conduct facility inspections and perform or assist with minor facility maintenance Report damaged equipment, vehicle damage or any unsanitary or unsafe conditions noted during vehicle or facility inspections Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations regarding the distribution and storage of controlled substances. Perform all of the above functions in accordance with MAAS established financial and operational plans and goals pertaining to cost effectiveness and efficient management. Prompt and regular attendance at work. Performs other such duties as may be required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED Current Certified Drivers License Previous warehouse/supply inventory experience preferred KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY: Demonstrated ability to read English and understand medical terminology Demonstrated ability to write reports and complete check off sheets Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, superiors and assigned staff Demonstrated ability to utilize personal computer systems including Microsoft Office applications Knowledge of asset control and materials management preferred Ability to control inventory shipping and receiving Knowledge of basic and advanced EMS equipment and medical supplies preferred PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 85 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 160 pounds with assistance from others. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Due to the nature of EMS working conditions employee may be exposed to inclement weather, potential hazardous conditions, diseases and other illnesses. Frequent interruptions, work pressure and irregularities in work schedule are expected. Employee is continuously faced with a number of projects considered to be high priority. Employee is subject to continually changing deadlines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to travel and attend both regular and unscheduled meetings, some of which take place outside of regular working hours. JOB TASK POTENTIAL RISKS PREVENTIVE MEASURES MANUAL HANDLING/MOVEMENT OF EQUIPMENT Staff could suffer injury from/by moving/ lifting/carrying heavy or awkward objects as well as falling objects. Authorized personnel can operate the pallet jack; Proper body mechanics should be utilized at all times while moving/ lifting/carrying objects. Racking is designed to be suitable for the loads carried and has not been modified; staff reports noticed damaged immediately; protective footwear (toes covered) shall be used by all entering the warehouse. WALKING Slips, trip, falls due to wet, slippery floors or clutter & loose electrical cords. Staff may suffer sprains/strains/fractures if they trip over debris or slip on spillages/wet floors. Adverse weather conditions causing slippery parking lots/curbs. General safety awareness including keeping office floors and aisles free of clutter. Floors need to be kept dry; practice good housekeeping spills, cleaning or alerting logistics of spills; Secure all electrical cords; Appropriate footwear: no more than 1.5" heels with appropriate non-slip soles; replace shoes once treads show signs of wear; Use caution when walking on various surfaces (uneven terrain, parking lots, terrain materials) or entryways that may have or have been exposed to adverse weather conditions (rain, ice, snow). PALLET JACK OPERATION Staff may sustain injuries, minor to severe from the lift crashing into objects; hitting personnel with lift; objects falling from the lift. All operators are trained and show competency based on manufacturers recommendations; Aisles have sufficient space to enable easy on/off loading; warehouse access restricted; floor condition maintained. MATERIALS/COMBUSTIBLES STORAGE Staff could sustain injuries from smoke/flame. Exits marked properly; fire extinguishers accessible/checked monthly; fire detection /alarm system in place; no unnecessary debris stored in warehouse; good housekeeping skills practiced by staff. CLEANING EQUIPMENT Staff could encounter bloodborne pathogen (BBP) exposures during stocking/cleaning ambulances. Successfully complete the annually mandated BBP training; Utilize provided PPE based on potential exposure risk. LADDER USE Sprains/strains and severe injuries can occur by falling from the ladder or dropping objects from the ladder. Ladders shall be restricted to their intended use; Ladders shall be inspected for visible defects before and after any occurrence that could affect their safe use; Broken or damaged ladders shall be immediately tagged "DO NOT USE," or with similar wording, and withdrawn from service until restored to a condition meeting their original design; Ladders shall not be moved, shifted, or extended while occupied; Ladders shall not be climbed by more than one person at a time, unless it is designed to be climbed by more than one person; Portable ladders used as means of access to ascend and descend to a work location do not require fall protection, however only light work for short periods of time shall be performed on portable ladders; No work requiring lifting of heavy materials or substantial exertion shall be done from ladders; Portable ladders shall have slip-resistant feet; The top or top step of a stepladder, shall not be used, as a step unless it has been designed to be so used by the manufacturer; Ensure latches are in place before climbing an extension ladder; Keep loose tools off the steps and top platform; Job made ladders will be made in accordance with ANSI A14.4; Single-rail ladders shall not be used; The use of ladder climbing devices shall be in accordance with 21.I. Articulated ladders are allowed if they meet ANSI A14.2 standard. ENTERING/EXITING VEHICLES Injuries can occur falling out of vehicles. Place vehicle for optimal safety; use three-point contact for entering/exiting vehicle; use running board/bumper, when available. VEHICLE OPERATIONS Bodily injuries from vehicle contacts; strains from extended periods of driving. Motor vehicle accidents causing bodily injuries, serious injury or death. Hazard of unsecured articles in vehicles. Valid driver's license. Valid MVR that meets company standards outlined in HR policy. Vehicle should be in good condition and well maintained; Insurance to meet HR policy requirements; Seat belt will be worn while driving; Passengers belted while vehicle is in motion; Defensive driving at all times; Driver will be rested and alert; NO CELL PHONE USE WHILE DRIVING; Monitor and follow applicable laws/training for road/ environmental/construction zones; All materials being transported to and from office should be carried in the trunk of the vehicle in appropriate containers or secured to be best of your ability. Place "Out of Service" placard on the driver/passenger doors of units before driving on roadway. Make certain you do a walk around before backing a unit without a spotter. Do not disengage the back-up alarm. Policies mandating maximum speed; Utilize a spotter when backing when available; make certain you do a walk around before backing a vehicle without a spotter; Do not disengage the back-up alarm; Height clearance decal located on the upper left corner of the windshield; Adjustable mirrors and seat; Monitoring devices installed in all fleet/support vehicles STRETCHER/COT USE Sprains/strains/fractures can occur with improper use. Inspect stretcher/cot for integrity. Complete stretcher/cot use training during orientation. Load/Unload as required by policy and procedure. Recognize weight limit.
