Description

ABOUT HL7 INTERNATIONAL HL7 International is a global, member-driven non-profit dedicated to advancing healthcare data interoperability. The organization is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as an international Standards Development Organization (SDO). Our widely adopted standards and frameworks are the foundation of health information exchange worldwide, enabling data to be shared, accessed, and applied to improve health outcomes and system performance. We are entering an exciting new chapter of growth and transformation. Our strategic vision emphasizes brand recognition, revenue diversification and growth, and the ability to innovate in response to emerging healthcare challenges. Position Summary HL7 International is seeking an Accelerator Program Associate to provide dedicated program operations services to a portfolio of HL7’s FHIR® Accelerator programs, reporting to the Director, Resource Development. HL7 FHIR Accelerators are collaborative, multi-stakeholder initiatives that operate under HL7’s organizational and fiduciary umbrella. They bring together payers, providers, vendors, government agencies, and standards experts to develop high-quality FHIR Implementation Guides and advance real-world interoperability. The Accelerator Program Associate serves as the primary operational point of contact for assigned Accelerator(s), ensuring that governance, project operations, financial administration, and HL7 coordination functions are executed with consistency, professionalism, and transparency. This position is fully funded through direct charges to the Accelerator program(s), consistent with HL7’s cost allocation model for program-specific staff. It represents a foundational investment in HL7’s internal program management infrastructure and offers a significant opportunity for professional growth as HL7 continues to expand and mature its Accelerator portfolio. The Accelerator Program Associate will be expected to participate in regular virtual meetings, some of which may occur across time zones, given the international nature of HL7’s work. Occasional travel to HL7 Working Group Meetings or Accelerator-related events may be required. This is a fully remote position. HL7 is open to hiring candidates that reside in the following states: Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida. Key Responsibilities 1. Governance Manage the administrative operations of assigned Accelerator governance bodies, including Steering Committee(s) and Operating Committee(s). Coordinate meeting scheduling, agenda preparation, facilitation logistics, minutes, and action item tracking. Maintain governance documentation, membership rosters, and committee records. Onboard new Accelerator members and committee participants. Align governance processes with HL7 policies and Accelerator charters. 2.  HL7 & FHIR Accelerator Coordination Serve as the primary administrative liaison between assigned Accelerator(s) and the broader HL7 ecosystem, including relevant Work Groups, product families, and project teams. Facilitate communication between Accelerator leadership and HL7 staff across departments (communications, finance, IT, legal, and others as needed). Stay current on HL7 policies, processes, and organizational developments relevant to Accelerator operations. Ensure cross-Accelerator coordination and knowledge-sharing as directed by the Director of Resource Development. 3.  Project Operations Lead cross-workstream project operations, including milestone tracking, deliverable management, risk identification and mitigation. Maintain public-facing Accelerator artifacts, including websites and Confluence spaces. Coordinate scheduling and logistics for working group calls, task forces, and technical review sessions. Manage collaboration tools and document repositories on behalf of the Accelerator. Draft and distribute communications, newsletters, and meeting summaries to Accelerator communities. 4.  Financial & Contracting Administration Act as the Accelerator’s primary liaison to HL7 Core Services on financial and contracting matters. Validate that financial reports produced by HL7 Core Services align with Accelerator project documentation and leadership expectations. Conduct the Accelerator’s annual and periodic budget development processes, coordinating inputs from Accelerator leadership and in compliance with guidance from HL7 finance staff. Monitor budget-to-actual performance on a monthly basis — review financial reports produced by HL7 Core Services, reconcile against internal project tracking, identify and investigate variances, and provide leadership with a plain-language summary and recommended corrective actions if needed. Manage contractor and vendor engagement — initiate and coordinate Statement of Work (SOW) development for subject matter experts, vendors, and other contractors; track execution timelines, deliverable completion, and invoice approval workflows; flag scope creep or billing discrepancies to HL7 Core Services. Administer grant and external funding obligations — maintain a tracking register of all grant-funded deliverables, reporting deadlines, and funder requirements; prepare or coordinate draft reports to funders; ensure expenditures remain aligned with approved grant budgets and flag any compliance risks. Maintain financial transparency with Accelerator stakeholders — produce regular financial summaries for Steering Committee review, including budget status, upcoming spend commitments, and any material changes to the financial outlook. Qualifications and Required Skills Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in health informatics, public health, business administration, nonprofit management, or a related field. Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in program or project management, preferably in a healthcare, health IT, standards development, or nonprofit environment. Demonstrated experience working with governance bodies, multi-stakeholder committees, or collaborative industry initiatives. Experience with financial administration, budget tracking, or contracting coordination is strongly preferred. Skills & Attributes Familiarity with HL7 FHIR, healthcare interoperability standards, or health data ecosystems is highly desirable; a willingness and ability to develop this knowledge quickly is required. Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple workstreams, deadlines, and stakeholder groups simultaneously. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear meeting documentation, summaries, and stakeholder communications. Proficiency with collaboration and project management tools (e.g., Confluence, Jira, SharePoint, Smartsheet, or equivalent). High degree of organizational rigor and attention to detail, particularly in financial and contractual matters. Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in a remote, distributed work environment. Strong interpersonal skills and a service-oriented approach to working with volunteer-driven, expert communities. Commitment to HL7’s mission of advancing global health data interoperability.
